Any thoughts, pro or con? I have a family member who really likes this guy. I have some real problems with his view on the current state of the 'church'.

What do you think?

Harold Camping is just one of many good but misguided men.
Ten years ago, he used the bible to *prove* that the world would end in Sept. 1994. He was wrong.

Now, he's using the bible to *prove* that all churches are wrong, and that we should be listening to his radio station instead of "assembling of ourselves together... especially as the days grow short".

Harold Camping is no prophet... no bible teacher... he's just a layman with no theological education who secretly resents ministers and educated men who disagree with him.

Dear Super Bo,

When I first heard Harold Camping I was like you and had REAL problems with what he was teaching. I was an instructor in a west coast Baptist Bible College. As I began to examine what Camping taught comparing Scripture with Scripture, I found that there were errors in baptist doctrine and what I was teaching.

My church, of which the college was a part, had received recognition among baptist churches for the number of souls (people) baptized each week. (We were 3rd in the entire nation for baptisms). The church insisted that all these baptisms were "salvation experiences." That, of course, was not true. In fact, probably NONE of those dear people who were baptized had become born of God.

We, my baptist church and members, were following "another gospel" (false gospel). When the Lord began to show me this, I resigned my postition in the college and left the church. I have a M.S. in science and a B.S. in theology (few courses short of a M.S.).

In 2 Corithians 13:5 God commands that we "examine ourselves" to see if we are in the faith (saved). I know that I am not saved but I continue to search the Scriptures and pray. I believe that Camping is teaching truth.

I hope this will help you.

***I've listening to Camping for 4 years and am familiar with his book 1994. Contrary to what many say, he did not say that 1994 would be the year of Christ's return. He said that from his study of the Bible at that time 2 dates came into focus: 1994 and 2011. And that there was a high probability that 1994 could be the date of Christ's return unless he had missed something. He later stated that the period of the "latter rain" or final harvest had not been considered.

He believes the wrath of god will come down upon the christian churches of today because they are not fundamentalist enough.

As an Atheist, if there was a god then I would see no problem with his wrath being visited on christian churches but not for their lack of fundamentalism, rather for their overabundance of fundamentalism.

He seems like another christian nut case.

I find it hilarious that he keeps predicting the end of the world in a certain year, then when that year passes he revises his prediction...
