It's still considered good manners to not put one's elbows on the table. It's widely done, though, and more people these days don't care.

It is still rude to put your elbows on the table but I notice more and more people doing it. I have also noticed that when I was young you were never to put your elbows on the table but now some people just don't do it when there is food on the table, but might say during coffee or after dinner conversation... I guess that's not so bad.

Why would it be ok for the adults to do so. It is up to the adults to teach good manners to the kids, so how will they learn if they see the adults doing it? That doesn't make sense. I would not get after my son for doing this if I did it myself (Which I don't). I think it is rude and borish to put elbows on the table.

Yes, but at the less expensive chains, and hamburger spots, many people do and I see more and more of it. You certainly wouldn't do at someones home while a guest, or it a upgrade restaurant. I don't do it ever, because I know it is not proper. I do sometimes rest my wrists on the table, which I believe is alright, but, I don't even do that when formal dinning is the order and while eating with other people I don't know real well. It is more of when eating alone or with someone I know real well, and, only at the pub/grill type restaurants.

For those of us that know better and exhibit good manners, yes this is very true. However, it is also true here in the U.S. that manners are becoming extinct. Very sad how so many people are not teaching their children manners. Personally, I find the lack of manners a large issue. God bless****

Yes, it is still considered bad manners. There are still a lot of people that do it. Some are not taught about manners like that anymore. It's unfortunate.

Generally.
It's just basic manners, but I don't think most people really care.

Technically it is, but it's one of those things overlooked. I do it casually, but if I'm at a job interview or out with the grandparents (who are european) I don't.
It could be perceived as being too relaxed or cocky at a job interview/dinner.
