God, I hate that! I had the same problem.
Which action to take all depends on how far you are willing to go.
I wanted to make sure they were eavesdropping so I made up a fake scenario in my conversation and when it got back to one of my other friends I knew it had to be them that told. I then confronted them in private and told them I made it up and told no one else so I know it's you. I told them they have to stop being nosy. Since then. we all hang out but things have been weird, mainly for that person. I think they are just embarrassed but will get over it soon.

Go with some wild converstaions, involving a plot to kidnap a VIP and smuggle some weapons and nuclear material. A few bank robbery plans also, to finance it all. And throw in some drugs as well. Don't forget the bribes to the politicians and getting a gang to help. Oh, and busting Bubba and Jacko out of prison.

I would play music. Not loud enough to be obnoxious, but loaud enough where they cannot hear your conversations. If the do say something, tell them that you just realized how thin the walls are in the apartments and you don't want them to be disturbed by your conversations, and you don't want to overhear their's.

Buy a decorative rug and put on the wall.
How do you KNOW that the person is listening?
Say something louder, like --"And my NOSY NEIGHBOR listens to my conversations!"

If you can't confront them, which is what I recommend, then start making up vile gossip stories about them that are outlandish in nature. Or pretend to have wild sex in the best audio area, and make it sound extra nasty.

I wouldn't be indirect. I would BE AS DIRECT AS POSSIBLE!
