My husband is in the military and regularly hears everyone's political gripes about the war in Iraq. After which they always say "But I support the troops". What I want to know is how many people who say that actually DO something. Or is their support simply a pat on the back and a "atta boy".

Can you say, on the one hand, that you support the troops but at the same time, support an effort to cut their funding that would supply them with equipment and personnel to finish the job right and get out of there?
My husband worked 12-14 hour days, 14 days straight with one day off, then started all over again. Often times his misson would prevent him from being able to even eat a decent meal let along sleep. (he is with a blackhawk helicopter unit). What he needed more than another box of socks and deoderant from someone was HELP.
Are you willing to put your vote where your mouth is?

just what it is- you support the troops. u dont necessarily have to agree with the war and all the political matters, but by saying it you display your humanity. u don't support the war but u dun want the troops to die/get hurt.

I can only support the troops as an individual by my voice. Our commander in chief to the men in the line of fire .I state my opinion more times than I am ever asked for it, and part of that opinion is "just as parents may disagree behind closed doors when they present themselves to the children, the rest of the family ,and the world they must be united, committed and resolute until Hell freezes over or the mission is accomplished!!"I
Our church as a family supports by sending care packages to the folks who are willing to die to make both those who hate and those who love able to continue a more peaceable life.
If we made the wrong choice then so be it.
Next time we will do and be better.
Thank you your husband and all your family for your service!

When I say I support the troops, I mean that I don't agree with the war, but I still have great respect for everyone who is over there fighting and working to help our country. It's certainly not your husband's fault that we're in this war, is it?
Do I actually do something? Not really. I don't have any ideas about what to do, but if you have suggestions, please let me know. My husband is supposed to be taking his testing and physical for the military in the next few weeks, so then I guess I'll have more to do when he gets in.

I am a navy wife. For me when I say "I support the troops" it means that I support the men and women who are wearing uniforms and that they are doing what they need to do. It's there job. I don't think we need to be some places in this world right now...but I support teh fact that a lot of military personell can't help what they need to do. So I support them doing there job. It's a hard job.
Side note...I don't support our president doing what he's doing.

Supporting the troops means that you are behind them, and that you respect and honor thier sacrafices to protect thier country.
You respect the decision that Goerge Bush has made in the war and despite the negativity from the Liberals out there you still support them and send your love through prayers (if christian) or through letters or donations.Even if you dont give them money for clothes or water then you can still support them.

What it means to me is that even though I disagree with this war, I constantly pray for the troops, send a card every now and then just to let them know that the people of the US are behind them, and use my vote to try and remove those who would keep this war going indefinitely.

It is possible to support the troops while disagreeing with the war. It is not the soldiers' fault if they are in an unpopular war that was seemingly started on false premises due to falsified information. Being in the military shows courage and is in a way an even greater sacrifice if the war seems unjustified.

I can still defend our military against the people who want to speak poorly of them. I can answer questions honestly (all of which can be verified) and hopefully educate younger people about the military. And if push comes to shove, I'll strap an Air Force fighter on my butt again and join those kids over there or where ever they may be.

Support, get them out of an unpopular civil war. Support, send them packages with goods for their use. Support, no matter what descicions are made as far as the course in Iraq, they have respect and admiration towards the soldiers.
