I'm not a Christian, but perhaps the gene that reduces interest in bananas also provides humans with free will.

Just a personal comment I think animals have great personalities. I thin they are great company. I have a cat that is quite intelligent. But animals have limitations. Any good trainer knows that. Thus I think it's wrong for a Human to expect an animal to respond like a human.

Let's see the meaning of soul. Soul means spirit of consciousness between good and bad. Animals may not have a soul, but they can be loving, though they do not know the difference between good and bad. Soul means having knowledge of good and bad. For truth, soulless creatures are more praise worthy than humans!

The Book of Genesis says that when God created man He breathed into them the breath of life and he became a living soul. No where does He do this to the animals.

When John the Baptist baptised Jesus, the holy spirit came to Him, described as "like the spirit of a dove", which to me would mean that doves have spirits, hence souls.
I've seen the souls in their eyes, so I know they have souls. Any creature that has the capacity to love has a soul.

Simple. If animals had souls we'd feel guilty about eating them. So it becomes a choice: give up bacon, or consider a pig lowly and unworthy.
Not a hard choice.

I don't believe the Bible actually teaches anything concerning the souls of animals, but after all they are part of creation.

none really. We believe that way because we have a need to feel superior and special to all the living things. Do humans have a soul? Maybe. Where's the proof?

Soul - your mind, will and emotions.
We know that animals have minds. They have a will because they use that as well. Last, they have emotions. They love, they get angry, they protect their young...etc.
Why do you think animals don't have a soul? (Just wondering)
