I doubt that a prophet named Jesus existed , I do know that there is no God, but I cant 'prove' either case.
I just started a little experiment recently, you may be interested in?
I know of course why Christians believe the whole story, mainly from their New Testament!
But to be fair they have mentioned a few other sources, none of which I ever found to be conclusive, it's interesting reading though, just type in 'did Jesus exist' into your yahoo question search, read all the answers, it may take some time.
I knew also that Muslims believed there was a prophet named Jesus, and they respect him as such! (a prophet).
I wondered why they believed and did they have any outside sources, so I asked the question on this forum, no Muslim gave any source outside of the Koran, that was source enough.
When I finally get around to it I want to ask the Jewish community why they believe that there was a prophet named Jesus, where did their source come from?
But at the end of the day I'm not trying to 'prove' anything, that just wouldn't be possible, there is nothing at all that would ever convince me there is a God, (and I have thought up every scenario)!! And there is nothing that could convince religious folk that there is no God. So I have given that up now, but it's interesting to try and judge what any so called 'facts' really boil down to.
PS My curiosity got the better of me so I did a (quick) research of my question to the Jewish thoughts on Jesus, this is what I reckon.
The Torah , which I consider as Old testament (they dont like it being called Old Testament)! consists of the first 5 books of the OT, so obviously no mention of JC in that, and the feeling in general is that JC did not fulfill the forcast of the coming of a Messiah, in very many respects.
The Talmud followed a long time after and is really more of a book on religious debate! JC is mentioned in that!
I think it would be fair comment to say the minority of Jews dont consider JC at all, the ones that do look upon him as a minor prophet, a sort of teacher of his time, but not to be placed in any position of importance.
The main point being I can find nothing really outside any religious text to convince me that JC even existed !

The only other work besides the bible that Jesus is referred in are the writings of Josephus...and only in one sentence where he refers to Jesus as the king of the jews. I personally think that Jesus was a minor philosopher in his time who was persecuted for corrupting others with his version of god and morality. All in all, he sounds like a swell guy but isn't the son of god. In reference to the percentage of delusional americans; I read that only about 33% of americans go to church regularly. Another 15% go parttime and another 15% are christian only by tradition. The rest is made up of jews, muslims, buddhist, atheists and other. I've read that there's a large and growing population of pagans which is attractive to many because they honor nature and both the masculine and feminine equally - which no other religion does (no matter what they may say). People are religious only because they are ignorant. If you take the time to research history and the earliest religions, you will see just how many much older religion's were assimilated by christianity, islam, judaism etc. In fact the very first monotheistic religion was "invented" by Ahkenaten who abandoned the Egyptian pantheon for the one true god "Amun Ra". I think that as people become more self sufficient and logical, the need for religion will continue to wane. Some people tout that without religion, you have no morality, compassion and sense of what is right and wrong. I completely disagree. You have only to read history to see horrific acts justfied in the name of religion. I personally don't need a sky god forcing me to be a just and decent person with no other motivation to do well by others lest I burn in hell. I do well by others because I want to and it's the right thing to do...not by religious guilt.

Who knows? Jesus, the man, did exist. That's a historical fact. I don't think the number of Americans who are deluded has anything to do with their religious beliefs.

I think Jesus existed but he was just a normal man, perhaps more intelligent than others of his time, but certainly NOT the son of god as I do not believe in god either.
A vast percentage of americans must be deluded. Id guess about 99.9999999%

Jesus actually DID exist, Christians aren't the only one's who believe this. Muslims and Jews both recognize Jesus existed, as do most atheists. The question is whether He was God or not.
Don't worry: you can still be a good little athiest and believe Jesus existed. You don't have to stay as ignorant as you are.

There are actually numerous historical records that prove Jesus existed, the most famous being those of Josephus, who was a Jew(not a Christian).
Since we know Jesus existed(we even know from historical records that his hair was red),the important question is whether HE really was the son of God.
Sorry ,honey, you're the one who's deluded.Don't make statements about historical figures untill you've studied history.

Leaving the question of His godhead aside, there is plenty of written evidence by a number of historians of those days that show the person named - in English - Jesus did exist, did walk the countryside, did preach and was put to death.

WRONG!
If I were you I would take a wake to the British Libray where if you make enquiries I am sure that they will show you Rome, Greek & Arabic mauscripts written at the time Jesus' death all about him. These document have been Authenticated & were written by people who had nothing to gain by writing about Jesus. These people were independant of the Roman/Greek/Hebrew rulers & Christian People and were the local historians of the day.
So where did you get you so called facts from??? Please make sure that you have the evidence first.

Surely, you mean Jesus as he is attributed in the bible; for who is Jesus, if he hadn't done or said what is written?
In such a case you are, very likely, correct!
And to answer your question... too many! Too many Atheists, Non-Christian Theists, etc. accept this as a result of "fluffed" archaeological and historical evidences.
