You named two from the past several months, not a few. Now take into account how many inter-personal encounters with the public happen each and every day and figure out how many are like those you choose to portray as typical..
The answer is a very, very low number, which would lead one to believe that perhaps, just perhaps, your statement isn't quite true..

Just had to ditto KC V's comments.
And, to add:
The "Blue Wall" has crumbled in most parts of the country. Good cops don't want to work with bad cops any more than the public wants to be subject to the bad ones. The vast majority of cops are turned in by their peers and NOT by the public, crusading politicians, local video takers, or investigative reporters.
I have not been part of the "brotherhood" for as long as KC V, but I have been intimately involved at all levels working my way through the ranks. It is not the same world of policing that existed even 20 years ago.
Oh, and who do I speak to about that raise?

Dude you're off the wall. It wouldn't matter one iota what anyone posted as answers to this question because you, sir, are a domestic terrorist at heart.
The great thing about this country is that you have the freedom to act, think, speak and travel around as you wish.
You have the right to ask asinine questions such as yours.
You asked, we answered.
A great thing: since Columbine, law enforcement officers all over the country have been specially training for people just like you. If you feel froggy, jump.

The actions of a few officers should not influence public opinion of all officers. There are a few bad apples in every bunch, in every profession. Common sense should tell you that and tell you that not all officers are nazis. And you did notice, didn't you, that the officers in these cases are being punished, it's not like they are getting off scott free.

As an officer for over 30 years, I have to say, at least, that you have a misconception that all officers are the same. Had you been watching the news with me, you'd have heard me say, when the Chicago Police Chief announced the firing of this officer, make very positive comments for the firing.
As for the comment by one blogger...
"It happens because we allow it; we do not demand accountability and we do not demand the removal of those bullies in uniform."
I think, again, the Chicago Police Chief did just that...ordered the firing! Therefore, the comment is a mute topic.
As for some of the other rhetoric by the blogger, about officers, "NOT to herd us like sheep, or to intimidate us or be rude to us...we further allow it by not informing our elected offriicals that represent our needs and concerns and we do not demand that they do something about this madness." Again, a mute topic as the Police Chief did something!
"WHO or WHAT is going to defend us from them?"
Again, the system worked and the officer was fired!
"I make them KNOW that they are not here to push me around or disrespect me... do you?"
I'd say you sound a bit disgruntled! If you approach an officer with the attitude that you are going to be abussive and obnoxious, don't expect the officer to be unprofessional, but do expect him to insure you know that obnoxious behavior in public could present you a problem.
"We are the ones that pay their salaries..."
One could say a couple of things about the comment...I don't get paid enough for what I deal with and, as a taxpayer, I'd certainly like to give myself a raise like those legislators in Congress and on state levels give themselves!
"Blame your local politicians that have lowered the standards..."
Your state law specifically articulates the minimum standards of which officers must adhere to in order to be hired and also the minimum standards of training. Officers in my own state are required, by law, continued training with a specific number of hours credit per year in order to remain certified as officers.
As for the rest of this particular bloggers comments, suffice it to say, in my opinion, you sound extremely disgruntled which makes me wonder just whats happened in your past to warrant such stereotypical attacks against ALL officers.
There are good and bad in every walk of life. There's no "blue wall of silence" in THIS officers profession as the officers I know will take care of the bad officers to avoid comments such as made by the disgruntled blogger here.
It is unfortunate when we see remote cases where situations occur that bring discredit upon the profession. However, I do believe that the good deeds accomplished by the profession far outweigh the few who've tarnished the badges!
Best wishes!

alot to this story that the press is not showing, and they are being make an example of more for the press than for the law it appears.

i am not even a cop, but those who you speak of are the exception and not the rule. if you want to declare war on those guys, go ahead. how long has your militia been stockpiling weapons? you are going to need a lot to declare war on all police.

It happens because we allow it; we do not demand accountability and we do not demand the removal of those bullies in uniform. They forget too soon that we hire them to protect our rights, liberties and freedoms... NOT to herd us like sheep, or to intimidate us or be rude to us. AND we further allow it by not informing our elected offriicals that represent our needs and concerns and we do not demand that they do something about this madness. WE hrie them to protect us but if we do not hold them accountable and we do not demand excellence from them, WHO or WHAT is going to defend us from them?
When was the last time you took the time to call a precinct commander and complain about cops that double park in front of hydrants or bus stops while they stop off to have lunch or coffee and donuts? YOU and I would get tickets... but not them? Or have you ever called a precinct and complained when police squad cars go past red lights even though they are NOT in pursuit of someone? Have you ever complained to a commanding officer about a police officer's rudeness? I do it all the time and I encourage others to do the same. We are the ones that pay their salaries, and we HIRE them to protect us, not to abuse us or bully us or violate our rights, freedoms and liberties! I make them KNOW that they are not here to push me around or disrespect me without my yelling or screaming or threatening or getting belligerent... DO YOU?
Blame your local politicians that have lowered the standards that allows those with bully personalities to wear the uniform, a badge and a weapon, and we now have the Blue Wall of Silence protecting the inept, incompetent and malfeasant; that's the shame of it all.
Good police officers defending others because of the badge and not because of merit, worth, competence, honesty, morals, ethics... but fear of being left out in the cold when out in the field and under fire from the bad guys (remember Serpico?) The good police officers are yet to realize that those incompetents are the ones that are making them all look bad and endangering their lives... and their unions don't help matters, either!
You have rights, freedoms and liberties... and you have the responsibility of reporting those civil servants (whether police or office workers) that your tax money pays the salary for, and you have the responsibility to report any wrong doing, too. YOU have the responsibility to do something, not wait for someone else to complain and do something... WHAT are you doing to correct what you perceive to be wrong?.

You're an idiot.
I won't be joining your militia, in fact if any of you terrorists come near me i'll open fire on you as will every other law-abiding citizen.
