I strongly believe that the number one reason for self motivation is to become someones role model.
Start by coaching a team of your favorite sport. Work with younger kids. Start a short routine you can always accomplish and set short term goals so you can see the progress. Check out the links below and good luck to you.

Invest in a big mirror. Admire your progress. I know it sounds vain, but it works for me. When I see transformed person staring back at me, it makes me want to go to the gym even more.
You can also set goals...promise youself a new outfit when you exercise consistently for a certain number of days/weeks, etc.
Two other things that work for me: 1) post an older pic on the fridge. i found a photo of a much skinnier me and posted it where i could see it every day. that totally motivated me b/c i realized that i was there once!
2) pull out some 'small' clothes. i have a few 'favorite' outfits that i used to wear. as of a few months ago, they were kinda snug. i try them on periodically to check my progress. last month, they fit. this month, they are a little loose!! that is a good motivator for me.
Good luck and happy exercising.

You get hooked after about 3 weeks. It becomes part of your routine and you feel bad when you don't work out. At least that's my experience.

If I don't stay in relatively good shape I'll probably be diabetic by the time I can drink
