How you dress is not 'modesty' ... but your 'apparel' can still be 'modest' ... your skirts should 'always touch your knees' when you stand, and you should not show 'lots of boob' or your 'belly' at all when you are wearing a swim suit. I have a 'question' for you, though ... are you trying to become a 'nun' or just 'appear modest' in the way you dress. MODESTY should come from 'inside yourself' and that is something that can be there even if you are 'appropriately dressed' in a NUDIST COLONY ... don't 'act like a loose woman' and you won't 'become a loose woman' when you go out. Yes, you are 'representing HIM' ... but if you read your Bible carefully ... and maybe you should also read the new book 'Jesus' by Andrew Greeley, you will see that 'modesty' wasn't IMPORTANT to Christ ... but 'devotion' was ... and if you can 'show that devotion' by going to church regularly, and by 'doing GOOD deeds' wherever you go, I think that you will be 'just right' in ALL THAT YOU DO.

It don't really matter what season it is or how the weather is outside because you suppose to dress in a way that is pleasing to God. Before I became a christian I use to club and wear mini skirts and halter tops, but now that I'm a christian i don't wear things like that anymore. See when people dress like a hoochie mama or just wear their stuff to tight that attracts the wrong kind of attention. I use to wear short skirts, long tight skirts, daisy dukes, tank-tops, halter tops, see through shirts, spaghetti strap shirt/dresses, tight pants and anything else that showed my figure. I thought that I was all that and a bag of chips, but since I'm a christian now I don't have an desire to dress like that anymore.
Dressing provocative causes men and women to look at you in the wrong way and imagine what they can do with or to you. Dressing sexy or wearing stuff that show what you're gave you cause people to lust after you. Having lust in your heart and causing people to lust after you because of what you have own is a sin. God will get you and the person that is lusting after you.
Dressing in modest apparel is not wearing something to tight, to short, showing your cleavage, not looking like you are for sale or on the market waiting for someone to purchase you, etc. Let's just sum it up dressing in a way that will please God and will not cause anyone to lust after you.

First of all, you are not representing HIM, you are representing yourself, and HE expects you to represent yourself in a respectful manner, so just dress in a way that shows that you have some common sense. Second, modest dressing means not having your stuff hanging out of every possible opening in your clothing. There is nothing wrong with miniskirts or clothing that is flattering to your figure. But nobody needs to see your butt haning out of your skirts or shorts, nor do you need to wear tops cut low enough to expose your nipples. If necessary and possible, WEAR A BRA. Nor does anyone need to know that you wear thong underwear; low-rise pants may be fashionable but you should not have to shave prior to putting them on and we don't need to see your buttcrack either. And please, if you have a potbelly, leave the belly shirt at home. Finally, if you can't breath or move, then your outfit is TOO SMALL. Remember, you can still be fashionable. You can still show some skin when it's hot out. Just use common sense.

If what you are wearing will cause a man's eyes to wander to you and to lust (which is a form of adultery), then you are wearing the wrong clothes. I know it is hard in this day and age when the mind can imagine so much under the clothes, but the clothes should not be so tight as to conform to the body, it should not reveal cleavage, mid-driff, or come too high above the knees. as for bathing suits, you have to use your own discretion with them too. I know that the material is getting less and less on them. I shop at the resale shop and get the older styles. they had more material. If you want to wear the newer styles, wear a cover up on the beach until you go into the water. keep yourself cover as much as possible so as not to cause your brother (men) to sin. If you cause them to sin, you are just as responsible, if you know that your dress is the cause of it and you had the knowledge to stop it. If you have a male friend get his opinion on your dress, if you trust his opinion. that is the only other option besides going to your earthly parents and getting theirs.

yeah, I question the club thing, too.
Basically, you want to keep it covered. Skirts at least to the knee. A sleeveless top is fine, halters are questionable. Nothing too tight, too high or too low. And keep the belly covered. As for dressing fashionable, it is possible to look good and still look modest.

When the Bible was written, no one could have ever conceived of what we would be wearing today!
Modest dress is simple yet elegant, flirty but not sexy. In other words, if when you wear it your Dad would react with a very loud, "You are not going out of the house wearing that!" then you are probably not dressing modestly.

In my opinion it's what makes you feel comfortable, but isn't screaming.."hey I'm hot come get me in bed". The definition of modest is different now than when the bible was written I imagine. Show that you are beautiful, but not out to get lusted over. Plus keep underthings under.

Many Christian ladies struggle with this, what is acceptable has changed in the eyes of "society". Here is a website that conducted a survey of mostly young men about what causes them to lust. It is a real eye opener. Check it out http://www.therebelution.com/modestysurvey/
