I am one year out of college. My girlfriend and I have been together for about a year now, and we live about 100 miles apart in different cities. The long distance thing was working for a while, but recently with her own personal depression/body image issues, our relationship has been strained and our sex life/intimacy has been suffering a little bit too. Also, to add fuel to the fire, I live with two other single guys in their early twenties and we are out every weekend drinking at clubs and bars. Anyway, long story short I ended up hooking up with a friend and waking up at their place, not really sure what happened, but we definitely were hooking up. I feel pretty guilty, but I also feel that I almost should get it out of my system now before we get serious later in life. I know its not fair to her, but if we took a break and were single I think it would break her heart. I keep rationalizing it that what she doesn't know won't hurt her? Is there some truth to this? What should I do?

Sticky situation. If you tell her, she will more than likely break up with you... but you have to decide if you are ready for the consequences of your actions.
do you love her? you didn't say. if not, then just break up.
no sense in lying to yourself or to her.

Confession is great for the person doing the confessing (Whew, now my conscience is clean) but usually destructive to the person being confessed to.

You made your bed, now lie in it. Do not tell her. It will only harm her.

You have to be man enough to keep this inside you. If you can't then you should just leave the relationship.

The only people rationalize is when they know that they've done something wrong.

You have already hurt her with your actions. She deserves to know if you are a person of integrity or not if you stay together.

If you rationalize and justify this, you'll just end up doing it again. It's not like you're going to stop going to clubs every weekend.

Either break up with her, or fess up and see if she forgives you. You're going to feel guilt gnawing at you for a long, long time otherwise.

Well, if this was just a one time thing, then I would just put it behind you and learn from your mistakes to never do it again.

DO NOT tell her. That would be stupid and serves no purpose whatsoever.

See a doctor, get tested for STD's, and keep your mouth shut.
