Give angles, turn to the side to present a smaller target area and tuck your chin behind your shoulder. Use the shoulder closest to your opponent like the barrel of a gun to aim at your target and keep moving, foot work is a much defensive as it is setting up punches.

For one, you should minimize your opponent's target area by keeping the foot that corresponds with your power hand back about 12 -15 inches. Secondly, you should always circle AWAY from your opponents power hand, hopefully minimizing the impact if you are hit with a power shot. Lastly, this is the type of question that comes from someone that is afraid of getting hit. The point is, if you're afraid of getting hit, you will never be successful. Some of the better foghters of the modern era were great largely due to the fact that they could "take a punch". I suggest viewing the Ward-Gatti trilogy for details.
