I've known both Chows and Samoyeds. And both can be very loyal dogs.

I have a Chow mix. I don't know if I'd want a full chow because they are very protective and non social. If you get a mix you get rid of a little of that. I have a chow/sheltie mix and he is great. He is my dog all the way even though he loves everyone else in our family. He actually chose me over a piece of steak that my husband had. That is loyalty!!! They are a very one person dog. They bond and bond strongly. There are very few people that I can leave him with and those few are ones that he's grown up knowing. They are very stubbron also so make sure you start right out from the begining being the one in charge by walking out doors first, making sure you don't feed him while you're eating, and make him sit for his food before giving it to him. You don't have to be forceful to be the alpha. Just read up on dog packs in the wild and follow along. The alpha is never mean, just in charge. Check your local rescues for a mix. They are the best and you are giving a home to one that needs one!!!

Samoyed of course!!!

Samoyed:
Samoyeds are gentle dogs. Peaceable and dignified. Very devoted, they tend to favor one person, but love everyone. They are easy-going, friendly and quite playful.

Chow Chow:
The Chow Chow is usually well-mannered, but can be willful and protective. Bossy, serious and very independent. They are self-willed to the point of obstinacy. Often a one-person dog, very loyal to his family, though he may act reserved, even with them.

Most any dog will be loyal, and that same dog is just as apt to be a monster. The trick is how you treat them and training.

Why not just head down to your shelter and see who captures your heart? Just because a dog is PB is no guaruntee of personality, so why not give a mutt a shot? Or get on petfinder and rescue on of your chosen breeds.
