How do I go about getting a full time job if I join the Air National Guard instead of being part time?

You can apply for AGR (Active Guard/Reserve) positions as they become available, once you are a member.

One thing good about AGR in the Guard is that if you find a position you like, and don't want to be promoted out of it, you can stay there for awhile. One of my friends made a good career out of being an E-6 supply sergeant for the Kansas Guard. He was in that position for almost 16 years before he retired and had few complaints about it. Good stability.

First you have to join as traditional Guard. Then as AGR jobs open, apply for them. There are a lot of AGR jobs out there and you get the AD benifits and pay but never have to relocate. I went from E-6 to E-8 and never moved once as an AGR. The only relocation I've done as AGR is into a bigger office with more windows. If I want to compete for E-9, I'll have to move about 300 miles west, but as we all know, E-9 is more politics than job performance.

I liked my Regular Army active duty time, but Active Guard is the way to go if you want stability and to raise a family in a nice quiet town of your choosing.
