The greatest sacrifice is not material things. It is the sacrifice of Ego at the altar of God. This one I consider as supreme. I am only marching on the path, not yet reached the destination.

I have continually avoided this question. It has been asked before. I took in a teenage boy at age 16 who had been thrown out of his home. He was mistreated by his father and step mother and was a very angry young man. I was in my forties with 2 young daughters and a mother to take care of and still took on this young man for 2 years. I bought clothes for him and talked him into going back to school and he did. I bought him an old car and tried to show him how a loving parent should behave because my heart went out to him. I was accused of being in love with him instead of loving him as a son by a so-called friend. My mother was upset because I let him live with us and my daughters became jealous of him. All I did was try to help a young boy and I ended up being accused of bad things that I never did and called stupid for even trying to help. Sacrificing for someone else can cause people to misunderstand you especially if they don't want to share with others. He eventually stole money from me and left and never returned. All I know was my heart was right, my intentions were good and I suffered for trying to mentor a young boy.

You have eliminated the single greatest sacrifice anyone can make, parenthood. We choose to give our lives to the growth and development of another, there is no promise of appreciation and reward (though many parents think they have a right to demand it). Since you want a different answer though, I can't help you.
