You should go talk to the mormons. They'll tell you that we do indeed have a Heavenly Mother. In fact, we have several of them. God has many wives, you see, and we won't be able to become Gods in the highest degree of the third heaven unless we have at least 3 wives. It's pretty gay if you ask me.

Gotta love the Mormons.

There existed cultures that worshiped a Goddess figure. In mans' early history, woman were considered sacred because they could create life from their own bodies. These matriarchal groups existed quite peacefully, had complex social structures and were more egalitarian than their patriarchal predecessors.

These matriarchal groups existed, archaeologists surmised, until after the Great Flood took place. After that, a patriarchal Indo-European culture called the Kurgans, who had domesticated the horse, had swept down from the flooded areas they had resided in search of food and wealth. Their strength and superior mobility quickly dominated the peaceful matriarchal culture.

After that, there was a progression from Goddess worship, to dualism (worshiping a God and Goddess), to the advent of late Judaism and Christianity which only focused on a male deity.

Some people believe that in Catholicism, the Virgin Mary is the representation of the Goddess, although Catholics certainly don't worship her as such.

Unfortunately, none of the other denominations have a strong representative of the feminine side of divinity. It's a shame since it is in contrast to nature to deny and subjugate a whole gender. Each gender brings forth its own characteristics and strengths and one could certainly not exist without the other.

Man invented their own god. Man worshipped brutality and might, so, of course, their god would be a mighty war god. The Law was given to man, so they had the Law and Brutality, how could you lose? Its much like today with Democracy. That dirty old "Satan" done away with the Mother because the Life Giver protested against Her children being murdered by the War God! The voice of dissent is quickly cut off by the War God and all His followers - men - all of them, so they could continue, unhindered, in their great campagne to rule the world, as their Father does. The lone voice of dissent calls the War God, the all male entity - The Abomination that causes Desolation, so that voice must be crushed and silenced at all costs. "Satan" killed His Mother, and placed Himself on Her Throne - the dirty bastard.

Since the definition of woman is the ability to create life and the possession of a womb, if God was the creator, he was by definition, a she. I'm pretty sure that the patriarchal society which spawned this myth structure would actually have a collective seizure if they ever realize this though.

Biologically, Jesus had no human father - his literal father was God, so he referred to him as that. He had a human mother- Mary.

However, God is said in the Bible to be Spirit, not human, and has no gender. Both man and woman were made in the "image of God," so female characteristics reflect God just as much as male.

Many times in scripture, God is compared to a "mother" nursing her children, or giving birth. Those are very exclusively feminine.

How can God have a gender? Interesting to note the lack of pronouns in the English language that are gender inspecific.

Patriarchal tradition.

Many early "gnostic" Christian sects recognized and venerated a "mother principle," and there's plenty of evidence that the old Hebrews often took up worship of foreign goddesses such as Ishtar - and of course, in Catholic Christianity, this worship of the Mother was continued in practice if not quite in theory with the "Blessed Virgin." Even the name of God, IHVH, was analyzed by the Qabalists into male and female complimentary components. But in the main line of Judeo-Christian tradition, God is represented as strictly "male" in character, which is basically a reflection of the culture.

It is, of course, absurd to assign a sex to God; but what isn't absurd in Judeo-Christian tradition? Credo quia absurdum!

Maybe we do have a Mother. Are our earthly parents single? Moreover, have you ever considered, given the abuse that the Father's and Son's name receive from us, that he would risk the same with the Mother?

Because he knew who his mother was. That was obvious. The father was unknown. Still is really.
