I've seen so many cutting boards, rollers etc. made from white marble-what is the reason for the lack of reccomondation for it as a countertop? Is it strength,or cleaning or bacteria or what? Would love to know actual answer----

It's very porous making it high maintenance for a kitchen countertop. It will take water marks and other stains without proper use and care. Though it still is a matter of preference, a more tolerant stone like granite or silestone is usually recommended.

Marble stains easier and is not as durable as granite, for a kitchen countertop. Even if it is sealed, it is recommended for areas that are not such high traffic areas. Like a powder room vanity top, a butler's pantry top, etc.

I would guess its not recommended more because there are not many people who would want an all white marble counter top and its a matter of supply and demand.

I have seen kitchens with white marble counter tops and also in bathrooms and I have to say its not my first choice for the kitchen. It gives the room a sterile look especialy if you have stainless steel appliances. For me its great as an accent but I could not cook in a kitchen where that was all there was.
