Home health is the wave of the future and you are looking toward and long and fruitful career. Right now in the field, physical and occupational therapy are in greatest need. Nurses and home health aids are always needed, too. As well as clerical staff and business management personnel. If you are fresh out of high school and can do it, I suggest going to college and starting out in a general curriculum. In the meantime while you are getting your basics and electives out of the way, you can talk to the school guidance counselor about your options(nursing, clerical, therapy, business management).
The therapist make a ton of money($80K). Nurses make less($50K) but you can ALWAYS find a job. You will need a four year degree for most any management positions. If you are organized, personable, and can take on a task without someone over your shoulder all the time then you are just the right person for home health. You must love people, especially older people as that is what most consists of home health patients. There are also many different job opportunities in home health. You can advance yourself through more education and typically your employer will pay for this. I am a certified wound ostomy and continence nurse(CWOCN) in home health and make nice money. I also make my own schedule! I do not work weekends, or holidays and do not take call. I love home health.
Has anyone ever told you that you were caring or compassionate? Do you love to help people? Then give it a try.....If you end up hating it, you can always go to a hospital, nursing home, doctors office, clinic, rehab center, about anywhere!!!!!
One thing I like about home health is that everyone works together for the good of the patient. Sometimes in the hospital you have your own team of patients and they are yours exclusively. In home health, we all collaborate to help the patient become as independent as they possibly can and remain in their home.

Good luck and GOD bless you!!!

There are so many options when working in home home health. You can be an Rn(which takes 4 years), a Lpn(2years), pta, ota, pt, ot, or a cna (which would be the quickest, just a few weeks) Some places around here even hire people with out experience just so the elderly person wont have to be alone and has someone to cook meals for them, do housework and take them where ever they need to go. I would call around to a few agencies and see what there looking for and what qualifications you would need.

A nursing degree or diploma would be nice. They do hire some unskilled an non diploma/degree people and pay you much less. Take the time to get the degree before you try to fine a job.
