I have this old, dark varnish on my cabinets, along with grease and other stuff. I want to get it down to bare wood, what can I use to do that. I heard that you can mix witch hazel and rubbing alcohol together, but I don't know how much to use of each.

Acetone or Paint remover should work. Mixtures can be dangerous.

I have removed paint with acetone. Wet old towel rags with the one you choose and wipe them down.

Sanding first (if they are solid wood) would probably be a good Idea. Use sanding blocks to break through the old varnish. Good Luck.

Formby's Varnish remover is great -- go to Lowe's or Home Depot, even Walmart. There's an entire section of these products.

If you sand, use a fine texture. A bit of elbow grease and you're good to go.
