It comes up time and again when christians ask atheists why we are atheists. They say things like "why do you reject the lord?" in a way that suggests we we acknowledge there being a lord, but chose not to accept him.

Why don't they understand that, from where we stand, we are not actually rejecting him, because he's not there to reject? You can't reject something if it doesn't exist.

They seem to be implying that it's like someone turning their back on a parent.

It's not, and I'd like to know why they can't get their heads around that point.

They are very narrow minded people. Look at all the wars caused by this 100's of years ago we would all be dead for not believing what they believe.

I have concluded that Primoa is actually a trolling atheist, just trying to make real Christians look bad.

And Steve B. above is living in some alternate universe Y!A I am not at all familiar with... 99% of atheist responses I have seen are very clear that there is no god, and that there is no point in trying to prove a negative...

And Tom, well, we are filthy now? That is not what I would consider a Christ-like attitude.

walk into a room with no light and tell me that you can see in front of you. you cant cant you? i could stand an inch away from you and you would have no clue that i was there becuase you can not see me. thats doesnt mean im not there. trust me, he is there, you just havent opened your eyes yet to see him.

but just becuase you cant see something doesnt mean its not there.

stand outside on a windy day and tell me you can see the wind. no, not the effect of the wind, tell me you see the wind itself. you cant can you? but in all truths, its there is it not? now imagine that there is a person who has been inside one room all his/her life. and this person has never felt the wind, but you have. walk up to that person and explain to them exactly what the wind is. can you? how do you explain that to someone who has never experienced it?

i want you to think about a blind man who has never seen before. can you explain to him what the sky looks like? you can surly try can you not? but after all the babbling you have done, will the man fully understand? no. but you have seen this sky, you have experienced its beauty. yet you cant explain it to someone who hasnt. and when you try to they just think you are crazy becuase they cant see it. but you know with all your heart that it is what it is and all you want to do is share its beauty. and get the blind man to see it how you see it.

you said, "Why don't they understand that, from where we stand, we are not actually rejecting him, because he's not there to reject? You can't reject something if it doesn't exist." oh but i do understand it from where you stand. i was once in your shoes, remember that. you are rejecting something that you havent seen yet. back to when i was telling you about picturing standing in a room with no light. and i would be standing right in front of you. when the lights are turned on and you see me right there, does that mean i never existed until then? you are rejecting something because you cant see it with the eyes on your head. what you need to do is open the eyes to your heart, you are like the blind man that cant see the beauty of a sunrise and sunset everyday. its there, you just cant see it.

God exist whether you want to believe in him or not.

re-read this to fully understand my words. yet keep in mind, no matter how hard i try to explain to you what it is like, i will never be able to becuase you have never experienced it. words can not describe what i see with my heart. i pray that one day you may see what i see.
blessings upon you my friend. shoot me an e-mail if you would like to talk some more.

The only problem with your argument is that a lot of you turn around and quote the Bible (which you claim not to believe in) and attack God (Whom you also claim not to believe in.)

So which way is it? Either you don't believe in Him, so what's the point in attacking something that doesn't exist? Or else you do suspect that He exists and choose to reject that information. . .so why not admit it?

If you either say that He doesn't exist and quit attacking Him (especially by quoting the Bible) or admit that that He may exist but you reject Him, I'd have no problem with that. It's the ones of you that want to fight and argue about something that you claim doesn't exist that really bug me.

I can. I still don't understand why so many atheists spend so much time making so many derogetory and demeaning comments, pointless questions, teasing the core of a very important belief, when, as you claim, '...it doesn't exist?' What's the point of your questions, except to hurt people of faith?

I think the question you point out is fairly innocuous.

When people become Christians they beleive that God has opened their eyes to His way of viewing the world. Imagine if you were blind and then one day you had an operation to enable you to see. It would be difficult to totally remember what is was like to be blind because you would have pictures of what the world looks like in your head. It is the same when people become Christian, it is very difficult for them to totally go back to what is was like before they believed even if it is to understand those around them who don't share their belief

Since a god is real to theists, they can't imagine how someone couldn't accept at least the existence of a god.

Conditioning and a mindset.

An Atheist rejects believing in God. Religioous people who do believe in God might have the syntax wrong when they say "why do you reject the lord?" A better choice would be "why do you reject believing in the Lord?"

But that doesn't sound very smooth, does it? And I bet you really aren't thinking about grammar, are you?

Many Christians do not wish to be perceived as not being nice, so they are afraid to do what Jesus said, "If they refuse to hear you, wipe the dust off your feet as a testimony against them, and say, 'Nevertheless, the Kingdom of Heaven has come near you.'" More of us need to decide to leave you where you apparently wish to be, in your sins and without God. The book of Revelation is even more pointed, "Let the filthy be filthy still."

Where are the rest of my brothers and sisters in Christ on the issue? Shouldn't we be ignoring their "questions" once we determine that they have nothing other than snotty disobedience and mockery as an agenda? Why "cast pearls before swine?"

Well, my friend look no further then Y/A to find your answer. Most atheists answers imply that God exists. I not making that up, check it out.

But an even more telling point as to this is the way most atheists continually try to dis-prove God. Why would you need to dis-prove something that you don't think is there to begin with? And the even more telling point as to that is that you guys are on R&S. Any "real" atheist would avoid being here.
