I won't insult you by using those mean names, because that would also insult innocent people whom I have no beef with, but I wonder why you think "girly" or "womanly" (I'm sure that's what you meant) are insults. I'm thankful to be Pagan, because in most Pagan religions, not just Wicca, those are considered *good* things.

Ok, rather confusing but lets have a try.

Firstly wicca claims itself as a descendent and adaptation of an ancient pagan religion that was practiced in suppression from the Christian church. It claims that women, particulary wise women (which were known to exist and is well documented) using herbal knowledge and techniques passed down became spiritual healers and guides for small rural communities, from before Christianity and in a more obscure sense once Christianity dominated.

It was a female central religion from the start, it's practitioners conducting their business in secret from a religion that denied them all rights and privileges, and laid the cause of the Fall at their feet. This encouraged a more feminine aspect of the religion to be raised above that of the male, because a majority of the pracitioners connected mroe to the feminine. Today there is more of a push to have an equality in the two aspects, but the roots demonstrate a clear feminine dominance.

finally, feminine social and cultural practices are a social invention, and they have altered across history.

It's not exactly Womanly... it is showing the balance between Feminine and Masculine. It's one thing to view a man acting like a woman wrong... but is it ok for a man to be Nurturing? Nurturing another is viewed as a Feminine aspect (not a Woman aspect). It is this type of thing which is taught in Wicca. Now, I know there are a lot more women in Wicca than men, but it's mostly because many modern women view the mainstream religions as degrading them and their sensibilities and not from anything Divine.

Personally, I'm not Wiccan anymore. I left the religion several yrs ago due to the misinformation I was finding at that time. Misinformation which is being cleared up now thanks to several historians who are now looking into this religion. But, I know enough about Wicca to say that it isn't womanly... it's trying to bring the balance between Masculine aspects and Feminine aspects. =)

There isn't any offense in your question. To outsiders, it would appear to be "girly"... but once you understand what the Religion is based on, you will see the balance in it. =)

I'm not sure what makes you think Wicca is womanly, or that male Wiccans are somehow effeminate. Wicca is more aware of the feminine than some faiths - given that many covens are led by priestesses, etc. But most Wiccan men that I've met didn't strike me as being particularly more feminine than most nin-Wiccans. ::shrugs::

That said, I'm not sure what's the stigma attached to crying. Being masculine or "manly" doesn't involve denying emotions - if anything, doing that is dangerous. Crying's a perfectly normal thing.

I am a male Pagan Hedgewitch and have been for over 5 years. Most peoples concept of a witch is a female persona and call a male a wizard or a warlock.
Neither wizards or warlocks are witches, they are completley different. A witch can be either male or female.
I may be true when it is said that there are more female witches than male, I don't know the answer to that.

Huh? I never really thought of Wicca as being more "womanly" (perhaps with the exception of the feminist Dianic Wiccans obviously), it just emphases the Goddesses because in the mainstream religions deny their being any female aspect to the divine.

And yes, why would you think "womanly" is an insult?

EDIT: Dude, even if a guy shows his feminine side, that isn't a bad thing. Why would you think that?

We believe in a balance between extreems unlike muslims, christians, and other judaeo-Christian systems tat take the view our way or burn then go to hell! Just because we don't try to ram our beliefs down other people's throats doesn't mean we're effeminate, rather the opposite. Unlike your bretheren we have enough security in our manhood not to need to subjugate our women, we can actually accept them as equals! As has been said before, a religion without a Mother Goddess as well as a Skyfather is only half a religion to begin with and people like yourself only lessen it further.

first of all, wiccan and witch do not mean the same thing.

i know many male witches and male wiccans, and they are anything but girly. wicca does lean toward the feminine more so than some other pagan paths, but that doesn't make it a girly religion. i find that men who are wiccan or witches are much better in a relationship because they understand women better and respect them. the sex is way better too!

You state - Your spellchecker doesn't work or your spelling wouldn't be so poor. The other option would be checking your own spelling. I fear that accountability is fading in these days of technological access. Own your actions

You are British and you do not know how to spell womanly; bit of an oxymoron, isn't it?
Cheers!
