If you have a PetSmart in your area they offer basic obedience lessons and they are not to expensive. They are done in a class setting and are a great way to socialize a puppy.
Other than that ask at your vets office or if you have a humane society or rescue group most of them have some contacts for trainers that they can refer you to.
It is worth the effort time and money to take some training classes. You and your dog will benefit from it.

Ask at your vets, or look in pet shops. If you walk your dog with other dog walkers they might know some. Some advertise on the Webb. Not all trainers are registered but don't let that put you off as it's their ability, methods and understanding of the different breeds and problems that matter. They should let you go and watch under no obligation if you ask, and all dogs should be vaccinated. They should also have suitable insurance. Prices will vary on the cost of the room and insurance and the other out goings. The one I go to is £10 to register and £4 each time we go this is for 1 hour Pups are £3 for half hour that is long enough for pups as they can't concentrate for much longer

Have a look through this list for your nearest. Obedience classes usually work out between £2-£4 a session. Make sure you use a trainer who is a member of a recognised organisation & who only uses kind methods. Go along to one of the meetings without your dog to make sure you are happy with the methods they use.

I suggest finding a trainer that will come to your house one on one. I tried the group lessons and they did not work. I had a women come to my home and wow, what a difference. The dog can be trained in its own environment for specific things. However, she also brought two of her own dogs sometimes in order to train mine around others. Yes, it was expensive, but in three lesson and the info I needed to continue, I had a Jack Russell Terrier in tip top shape.

Your local pet stores will normally have classes and they are cheapest, but not the best training. Call your local animal shelter and they may be able to give you names. Look in your phone book under dog training. Look for a trainer that has training in dog behaviour and that uses positive training methods. Ask if you can observe one class to see if it is what you want. Get someone with a lot of experience also if you have issues with your dog.

You can do a search for local trainers in your area, prices vary according to where you live, and per trainer.

Make sure you ask about what techniques the trainer uses. If she/he seems to lean toward a lot of physical correction, then move on to someone else. You want to choose someone who bases their training on positive reinforcement.

Also, ask if you can speak to some of the trainer's clients. This is a great way to get a "feel" about overall training sessions, attitude, and satisfaction of clients.

If you are really interested in dog obedience lessons; contact your local humane society and ask them if they can recommend someone. If they are unable to; ask your vet. Both sources are reliable and should be able to help you find someone to that is best suited to you and your dogs needs.

You can go to your local petstore and see if there are any classes going on. If not search around the internet. They arent that expensive about $80-$100. Maybe more expensive, it all depends on where you are located.

You need to ask around in your local area ..around here we have a few clubs that run weekly in a local hall and only costs a few pounds per session ..obviously if you went for private one to one then it would be costly . You could also try the Kennel Club web site am sure they may have info for what is available in your area
