You're missing the point. Atheists believe that there is no lord, or God, for them to turn their back on.

I am happier now as an Atheist than I ever was as a Christian.

As a Christian, I always had a nagging feeling that I was basing my hope for salvation on emotions. I was trying to follow rules that were contradictory, and found it exceedingly hard to hear the multiple theologies that reside in Christianity. I always felt as though my specific understanding of doctrine might be flawed because there were so many differing opinions.

I tried reading the bible several times to determine the truth, and ultimately came to the conclusion that there were thousands of interpretations that could be drawn from the text because it was unclear. That led me to truly critique my belief and I came to the conclusion that it couldn't be trusted.

People rely in belief systems in the same way they rely on sports teams. It is all emotional.

Now that I have chosen to take a scientific approach, I am much more comfortable. Because I don't have to ignore or justify beliefs when they don't agree with tangible scientific proof.

Life is easier and much more fulfilling this way

Are you really happy being a monotheist with a single God that won't give you His name? Why do you turn your back on all the other Gods and Goddesses who would have a clearer and less complicated relationship with you, that would include knowledge of their Names and attributes ? Is it possibly that it is because you you need a religion that puts women in the lessor rolls and never a role in the range of Priests or God?

I am not Atheist, that is just the brush that Christians have painted me with. I grew up in an Atheist house-hold so they feel like my extended family. Yes, I'm happy.
It is christians that have turned their back on the Lord, and their brothers and sisters, and went with their own comfortable visions. They have chosen the broad pathway, not I.

Yes, there is a great deal of happiness to be found in a rational and realistic life. I'm certainly as happy as the few Christians I know, and possibly happier. Knowing that there is no deity presiding over the universe is better than thinking that there might be one.

Well.... Atheistic. Yeah, dunno what that is, i AM happy being Atheist, However. Yes. i turn my back on your lord, i would pee on your lord if i had the chance. Mainly, for not advocating education. At least , take the time to understand the people you are attempting to judge. Calling us "ATHEISTIC" gives off the impressioon, you really have no idea what an Atheist is.

I don't turn my back on anyone. The "Lord" does not exist. He was created as a means to answer those questions people could not answer. Later, he was "evolved" into a means of control over the masses. Pretty simple really.

Thanks for ignorantly sticking all non-Christians into your convenient "atheist" bucket! I'm agnostic, and yes, I am happy.

As far as turning my back, I've also turned my back on the boogeyman, Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, Freddy Krueger, and most other fictional characters that have no power over my existence. Your God is no different.

And I wouldn't turn my back on the LORD. That guy's a bit... well... odd, y'know?
