Absolutely not harmful!!!! Freezer burn is just the loss of the original moisture from the frozen food. As more and more water leaves the food becomes more dehydrated and gives the appearance of FREEZER BURN. (note- that is where all that snow comes from inside the package - it is really the moisture from the original product which escaped and then refreezes as snow once it escapes the original food.)
the quality is affected now because the texture, color and flavor is changed--BUT is not harmful.

Being freezer burnt is only going to make the taste different. It is not harmful !!! What would be harmful is if the food was spoiled when you froze it in the first place... freezer burn does NOT make things deadly.
Cooking freezer burnt food sometimes can cover up the bad freezer taste depending on what you are making. Make a spicy dish and you will most likely not even tell the difference.

Food that is freezer burnt is dried out on surfaces but not harmful, may not be quite as tasty either. probably best to use in a recipe when there is some sort of sauce or moisture added to it.

It depends on what it is. Meat and vegetables do go bad after they are badly (freezer) burned. They taste funny and they can make you sick. Scientifically, I'm not sure exactly what happens, but the food breaks down in some way and is not the same.
I don't think it's exactly like getting food poisoning (as far as the violent reactons go), but it's close.
