...that Christianity is an interloper of a religion founded in the Middle East and imported from it? And that the real "native" religions of America and Europe are Native American and Pagan? I'm really mystified by this, whenever I hear or read people talking about how Islam's going to take over or atheism is against these cultures or America's a Christian society or whatever.
Discuss. :-)

kscottmccormick, you're missing my point, which is that Christianity is another invention from another part of the world that's been folded into American and European cultures. Too many people act like Christianity was in fact invented by Europeans.

I could not agree more! Christianity is not indigenous to either the Americas or to Europe, it's alien. When Christians traveled to America and converted or killed the Native Americans as they stole their homeland from them. Their treatment was no different from that of the European Heathens no long before. What a lot of people fail to realize is that Europe was the first land to be infected with Christianity and this mindset to convert the world to one faith.

Native American and Pagan religions don't count, at least in a couple of ways.
First, there is very little central teaching in either group. The Pagans of the Iberian peninsula were probably very different from the Pagans of the Black forest area. And the tribes of Native Americans probably had significant differences as well. Sioux and Aztec, for example.
Second, at least in the pre-Christian eras, beliefs about the supernatural were more integrated into everyday life. They were not so much "Religious Views" as they were "World Views." Our current definition of religion has a connotation of choosing a particular faith. People fall away from the church in our society. That wouldn't happen to a Pre-Columbian Cherokee.

This is what you get when you have large organized religions that are only interested in hierarchic power and money. The must constantly proselytize to expand and many of the important words of their founders that do not support constant selling and pressured tithing or shoved into a deep dark closet. The majority of these churches slowly lean more and more toward regimented and militant members promised Heaven or paradise for supporting the religions secular goals.

Good point.
However Christianity has not, in recent times, outlawed Paganism or Atheism.
Islam won't tolerate either of them and the Islamic court can be quite harsh.
Like the Christian Spanish Inquistions USED to be.
You see, Christians question, reform, modify.
ALL of those concepts are ILLEGAL in ISLAM.
You can't change a word. You can't change a thought.
ULTRA ORTHODOX.
Notice that Navy girl is wearing a scarf.
Get ready for yours! It's coming!
It's MANDITORY
And depending on which TRIBAL court prevails you could be beaten and whipped for being an Atheist or Pagan.
You could be killed. You could be taxed. Imagine if they required you to pay half your income to remain being a PAgan, ATheist or Christian in THEIR territory!
Under Islamic Law if the KILLING is religiously justified there will be NO inquiry and NO punishment.
You find two men doing homosexual acts and cut their heads off. In Islam, no one will question you.

You need to go back and do some SERIOUS studies.
I am Tsalagi Indian....Cherokee to you whites. We are NOT pagan nor do such acts. How dare you even state such a lie.
Next....do you even realize the Cherokee knew of GODs name LONG before white man ever came to America?
We call him YIHOWA. Now break that down into proper pronouncing and then compare it to the real name, YHWH, Yahweh, and break that down and into pronouncing, and you realize they are but the exact same word.
So if your claims are true, which they are not, not even close to the truth (stop reading white man books, they lie), how did the Cherokee and all the other Native Indians already know of God and His real name before white man came or even the bible?
Please open your eyes, you are blinded by the reflection of white mans skin.
(the thumbs down proves how white man are, they only believe what white men say, that is why they run around scared, starting wars, starting lies and calling others names, they are scared of their own shadow and cannot handle truth)

Many beneficial discoveries occurred outside of Europe and America but are used by us today. Should we not use paper because it was invented in China?
The idea that witchcraft or Norse religion was the "true" religion of the Aryan race led to many Nazis adopting Norse religion. Many Neo-Nazis today follow Norse religion. Does this sound like a good idea to you?

Christianity is not an interloper. It pre-dates Islam by many years. It partially follows the Jewish tradition, and has as its Head the Lord Jesus Christ.
Christ said: "Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every nation and tongue."

I have not been failed yet. Everytime I encounter a christian the minutes tick by until you reach an impass where they are dumbfounded by the reality of the real world we live in. They rely so much on the bible and are not able to function without it.
