The RCC says she was, why do they follow traditions of man and not the bible?
ALL-HOLY -- Mary, "the All-Holy," lived a perfectly sinless life. ("Catechism" 411, 493)

Romans 3:23 says "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God". Revelation 15:4 says, "Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? For thou only art holy". Romans 3:10 says, "There is none righteous, no, not one".

The bible does say Mary was blessed among women.

The belief that Mary is sinless originates from the idea that no unclean vessel could hold the Son of God.In other words,Catholics say she could not have given birth to a holy child if she herself was not holy.An interesting idea, but more esoteric(you know...all the Mother Godess cults)than Scriptural. Now while I respect Catholics, the Bible says that ONLY Jesus was sinless.Besides which, there are a number of points to be taken into consideration by Catholics.
POINT # 1
The chromosome for death and aging is passed to the child from the FATHER not the mother. Now death and aging is symbolic of sin,as we see in Genesis. Thus the chromosome for death and aging could be said to be the symbolic carrier of sin from father to child. Now,Mary may have sinned, but she could not have passed that chromosome on to Jesus. This is why He had to be immaculately conceived--without a FATHER.Thus an unclean vessel could be,and in this case was, used to hold the Son of God.
POINT # 2
According to Catholic doctrine,Mary had to be sinless to carry a sinless child. Then how could Mary be sinless if her parents before her were not sinless, and their's before them, and so on...In which case none of them would have need of a Saviour and NOR WOULD THEIR MODERN DAY DESCENDANTS.Which kind of defeats the whole reason Jesus came to earth.
POINT # 3
Catholics claim that,as Jesus was the second (or last) Adam,Mary was the second(or last) Eve.They say she is a co-mediator with Christ. If she was sinless, that makes sense. But the Bible says,For there is ONE mediator between God and men,the man Christ Jesus. So to make the claim yhat Mary is equal with Jesus is idolatry.
POINT # 4
Nowhere in the Bible does it state that Mary was either sinless or ascended to Heaven before death.Catholics may disagree, but for something to be valid from a Christian point of view it must be backed by scripture. If you take the Pope's views on Mary literally, you are placing the word of man above the word of God.
POINT # 5
Worship the LORD your God ONLY,says the Bible.Worship Mary as well?I do'nt think so.

According to Christian theology,if it's not in the Bible,it's not true.

Mary was a great woman but she was not holy or sinless.

>>Catholics, Was Mary Holy?<<

Yes. If the ground under Moses' feet was holy, certainly the mother of Our Lord is! Or do you want to tell Jesus you consider His mother to be lower than dirt?!

>>Romans 3:23 says "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God". Revelation 15:4 says, "Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? For thou only art holy". Romans 3:10 says, "There is none righteous, no, not one".<<

ALL have sinned? Jesus, infants, the profoundly mentally disabled? Do babies go to Hell because they can't accept Jesus as their personal savior?

I'm not a RC, but I couldn't help seeing the question. I often wonder what people think that the word 'holy' means? To me, it means dedicated. Not perfect or sinless. So accoding to the Bible, Mary was a little out of touch with being holy by my definition. You know, the whole 'who is my mother' thing.

Luke writes that Mary is full of grace, highly favored. Lk 1:37: "For with God nothing shall be impossible." She is the "woman" of Gen 3:15 whose enmity with Satan and sin is absolute. She is the Ark of the Covenant (Ex 25:11-21) made to hold the living Word of God: a holy tabernacle made not of the purest gold, but of the purest flesh. St. Paul is emphasizing the universal aspect of sin extending to Jews and Gentiles alike. Babies have not sinned; Adam and Eve before the fall had not sinned; Jesus never sinned. These are some exceptions that fall outside St. Paul's condemnation. Mary is another.

God bless,
Stanbo

Mary became a sinner the picture of a few thing else of the international, she became only chosen by God to undergo the messiah

The traditions you speak of are the traditions of Jesus Christ. He preached and taught by voice. What He passed onto the Apostles was verbal, everything they taught was verbal, hence tradition. If all the words Jesus spoke during His 3 years of ministry were written down there would be numerous volumes of the New Testament. There is not enough shelf space in the world to hold all Jesus said and taught. Sacred Tradition is word of mouth. Taught by Jesus to the Apostles, who then preached across the world. The RCC teaches both by sacred tradition being Peter was the first Pope, and by the bible.

yes, mary was holy.

Hail mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb
Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of death.

The Hail Mary is taken from what the angel gabriel said to her. She was sinless. She did whatever God wanted ("I am the Lords handmaid"). She is definitely holy!!!

Another Catholic basher -- oh goody.

Ordinarily, I'd explain why we Catholics believe what we believe about the Blessed Virgin, but others have already done a great job of that.
The bottom line is that Mary was kept from sin through a special dispensation from God, in order that His Son might be born of a pure Virgin.

You can either accept that information or reject it, just as you please. Ain't gonna matter a hill of beans to those of us who do.

Edit:

Whoa, chrisgaffrey -- that was great! I didn't know any of that. . .thanks for sharing that information. :-)

I'm not RC. Mary was holy - she was taken to heaven; then again so was the City of Enoch.

The scripture to which you refer is generally aimed at those who have yet to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Master.

It should be remembered that there is a scripture which reads: "Judge not, lest ye be judged yourselves"
