For most fish, wait until it grabs and swallows the bait. Some you can catch when they're nibbling, but you'd have to know which ones they are, so I'm no help there.

Wait for it to take what? Do you mean wait for it to drag the pole into the water? Chances are if you wait too long your bait will be gone anyway, as soon as the bell rings you want to set the hook.

I am also a fisher woman..lol.. ok in fishing you have what you call bites. meaning the fish is nibbeling fish are nibblers while in the biting stage the fish is getting ready to strike the whole bite. wait until you feel a tug on the line then wait a few seconds till you feel the fish start tot ry to swim then reel him in gently but sturdy do not pull the line too fast or he will fall off.

wait. the bell is just an indicator that something is interested. dont set the hook until, the fish starts taking slack out of Your line.

never try to set the hook on the first ring. let the fish play a bit to be sure he takes the bait, then jerk up on the pole to set your hook and real him in!
