My husband and I were in an accident in January and are reaching the end of our treatment. We plan to wait and see what the insurance company offers us before we decide whether or not to seek a lawyer. I am wondering if anyone has a suggestion for a good MVA/personal injury lawyer in Madison County, IL?? My husband and I combined have lost 400 hours of work, driven 3,524 miles spending 72 hours on the road and 84 hours at the doctor. So I'm afraid that we may need a lawyer to get fully compensated for our losses. Thanks!!

This accident was not my fault. I was rear-ended at a red light. As far as witnesses, there were 3 other people in the car with me and the lady who hit me admitted fault to the officer.

Shelly,

Word of advice, contact a personal injury lawyer immediately. While the offer from your insurance company may look somewhat attractive, they will not give you the money you deserve for your injury. I'm sure we can both agree that an insurance company is in business to make money. For this reason alone, the company is more likely to offer you a lower settlement than what is owed to you. It is always recommended prior to talking with an insurance company to consult a lawyer. There are certain things you do not want to talk about with an insurance company. They are putting a case together based upon the information you provide to them, so they can pay you the least amount of money for your injury and expenses related to your injury. It is a necessity to say the least, that if you intend to get full compensation for your injury, that you contact a lawyer ASAP. Personal injury lawyers will typically work on a contingency fee basis meaning you don't pay them a cent unless you are successful at winning your case.

You better believe that an insurance company is not on your side, after all you are taking money from them.

Take a look at the link below. Use this tool to search for more than one attorney. It may be a good idea to speak to several personal injury attorneys to get a feel who is best suited for your particular injury.

Sorry to hear of your accident...I am sure living in Madison county you are aware of the reputation that is here as the "legal justice hellhole"...I have been experiencing that waiting for a car crash trial for over 7 years. I would suggest if your injuries are more than minor, which it sounds like they are that you do contact an attorney. Keep in mind that madison county judges do not take kindly to atty's out of the county. Depending on your case I would suggest someone who specializes in injury, and your specific type. I would be happy to recommed some that we know are good and ones to be cautious of but rather not on the board. You can email me privately. Also is there a question of fault? Do you have witnesses?
Feel free to contact me.

A friend of mine is an attorney in Collinsville, IL. He handles other matters, but his staff can refer you to someone in your area who can help you. Call the law firm of Katz & Wulff, 618-345-6966 and ask for a referral for a personal injury lawyer. I agree that you should contact a lawyer before getting the insurance company's offer. The consultation is usually free and you will know upfront what you're entitled to. Good Luck!

Make sure that you document all of your expenses. It seems like you are doing that. Medical bills, lost wages, receipts, mileage etc are important. You may or may not have a case, but most car accident attorneys will give a free consulation and work on a continguency basis (they would take a percentage of the overall settlement).

I would go with Carlson & Carlson, PC. Their phone number is 800-338-3352.
