Can anyone help me with a few basics on the new Canon Digital Rebel XTi..?

Can you use the screen as in most cameras? Or is it just the viewfider? and other basics...thanks

The screen is only for using the menu and reviewing pictures that you've already taken. You can't use it to compose shots. You also can't record video clips.
I suggest you grab a drink, make yourself comfy, and read the manual (with the XTi at hand to try things out).
You've don't need to know everything about it to take great shots, but it's good to have an idea of everything it's capable of. Read the stuff you think you'll use carefully, and just skim through the rest.
