Unfortunately too many people know very little about the history of their own religion. They are taught to *believe* and don't take the time to research what they've been taught. Perhaps a few of those people will open their eyes to the possibility that there are other people who also have valid ethics and morals.
Some people are totally surrounded by people of their own culture. At least here on Y/A they might be exposed to different cultures and learn that in actuality, we are all children of God and should be treated with respect.
True respect for others is impossible if we have closed our minds to traditions and cultures that seem foreign to us.
Why is it that we in the U.S. treat many foreigners with disrespect even though they are mostly of the same religion? Why is it that we bemoan how much it's costing us to teach others English, yet we insist that foreigners *must* use our language. Why is it that we bemoan how much it costs to provide medical care to *others* who aren't entitled to the care *we* have to pay for?
Why is it that Jews, Muslims, homosexuals, etc. must be so vigilant in this Christian country (U.S.) lest we be the victims of hate crimes? Why is it that people are so anxious to call this intolerant nation a *Christian* nation?

I know exactly what you mean and can understand why you exited R/S - I only have to mention I am a spiritualist and I get a thumbs down even when I have given a valid non-judgemental answer. I havn't given up though as I am still here - hope is something we have to hang on to otherwise what else is there? Let's hope (pardon the pun) that all those on here now will take heed and treat everyone with respect and that it will have a knock on effect.

Interesting question.
There is a thing called a miracle.
A miracle is when one focuses on ones own faults, roots them out, and quits finding faults with others!
Only then will the racism, bigotry and ignorance come to a screeching halt....

Only when the biggest single cause of death is recognised for what it is. Religion is the root of all evil, the cause of wars, hatred and murder. Yet religious people put themselves up as better than those who don't believe in god! When was the last time you ever heard of an athiest extremist cult or an athiest suicide bomber? Athiests appear to be the only peaceful people on the planet!!!

I totally agree, I asked a similar question today...I don't think this room is good for discussion, just bashing, that's most of what i hear and read in here...I really don't think the majority of the people in here is looking for real answers, maybe i'm wrong...I think we should share our Jesus with those who want to listen....

The participants who come to R/S is only a very small subset of the entire world population. We have to only do our parts to participate in polite conversation and ignore most of the disrespectful tones.

Religious tolerance has created more problems than it's solved. If something is patently wrong and harmful such as evangelical Christianity for example it must be aggressively confronted and destroyed.
