An example: see the ea in learn and bear and ear.
By this many European names have been killed by the English pronunciation. An example 'Orion' should be 'Oreon'

EVERY language is difficult to master, each learning experience being a life-long journey in itself.
Why learn English? Well, it's 'cause we use it all the time, everywhere. A real international language, pretty much a prerequisite for any big business. That's why Anglophones are making a killing in Asia, catering to the English-cram-class market.
Oh, yeah - remember that English, though hard to learn, is easy in comparison with, say, Mandarin Chinese.

It's the easiest language of the few I can compare it to.... the ones I know ....(Italian, Spanish and French).
I can't say it's the easiest all-round (I think you'd have to be aquianted with all languages to be able to come to that conclusion in full,...which is near to impossible....).
However, fact is the English language IS the most widely used, the most interpreted and the most useful.
One such proof is the internet, which was built around the English language.
So if you want to 'travel', physically or cybernetically, and expand your knowledge by interaction with the people and world around you, your best bet is to get to grips with the 'English' language!
No other way around it, I'm afraid! Be there or be square!

English is not hard to learn. As a matter of fact, any language is. I'm Spanish native, and I work as a English teacher, which means I have to talk every single day English. I love languages, they are beautiful, and there is nothing better than when you can communicate yourself with someone that doesn't speak your own language. That's my opinion.

I don't think that English is so hard to learn because there is a lot of exposure to English everywhere. (movies, songs, Internet)
Nowadays learners don't need audio-lingual support - cassetes and a lot of repetions. Yes, there is a problem with English spelling, but if you know the words, you hear English everywhere you simply recognize the words while reading.
I guess there are people who are not capable for learning languages, maybe it's a problem of pitch and they might have problems with their native tongue also.

i think one reason why english is so hard to learn, especially for those who are learning it as a 2nd language, is because our words are not always pronounced as they are spelled, and many of our letters can have different sounds ...in some other countries, the words are pronounced exactly as the spelling indicates, and without so much variation in the sounds of the actual letters...

It is not hard at all. Try some other languages and compare. For me it's easiest foreign language, and I have a lot of experience with languages.

the language itself is difficult to learn if it is not your first language in much the same way as any other...and the reason it is learned world wide is because it is the language of business and success...it is a truly global language.
