Church report---Use of masculine imagery validates 'violent patterns of behavior'

That has to be the stupidest thing I've ever read. Viewing God as a male does not promote domestic violence! That's as dumb as saying a Budwieser commercial promotes drunk driving. It's a beer, people drive drunk, hey! Budwieser is the only reason we have drunk drivers. Problem solved. Not!

Having a male God does not give men permission to abuse anyone! If God were viewed as a female, we would not see a rise in women abusing men, because there is no corrolation. Who knows why men abuse women (or women abuse men). Anger issues? A need to dominate? Just being a jerk? None of these have anything to do with religion since you'll find abusers in every religious branch, including the Goddess-dominated Wicca. The only boyfriend I ever had who was abusive was Pagan. That right there knocks that little theory out of the water.

many people blame God for many things, they don't understand why the bad things happen to the so-called good people. But things happen the bad the good and the ughy, things that we don't understand and in alot of cases the only one they see fit to blame is God..rather it is a death in the family or domestic violence and abuse..It started way back when in the garden of eden, they ate the apple and couldn't face the fact they themselves sinned, they blamed it on each other...and its been going on since, but now alot are blaming God cause God is a God of Love not hate, He is the big guy, He is in control and if He has such control and such love for His people then He should be the one to stop it all..It is a non-stop thing that will be here going strong till the return of Jesus Christ..God Bless

Considering that God doesn't involve its godself in matters here on Earth, at least not in a direct physical(present in flesh) way, it is a very interesting question.

Those people(Church of England types), we on the yahoo answers, or anyone else can say whatever we want about God.

I can pray to God. I can curse at God. Or can I? Is a God really listening or caring?

I think that if these people in the article you mention are going to be Catholic/Christian they may as well stick to their book/bible, and not shy away from the traditional views.

This "overbearing and ultimately violent patterns of behavior" is ridiculous, considering how frequently people refer to God as Father etc.. in Christian studies/meetings/prayers. Father is masculine. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think Jesus was supposedly quoted using terms like "My Father" in reference to God.

Are they going to rewrite the Bible, or demand it be reinterpreted?

Interesting article and question, thanks for sharing.

It might have something to do with a male being the supreme being, all the violence this male performs in the Bible, and all that female oppressive verbiage in the Bible - like the male is the "head" of the household.

But maybe that's just the common sense view.

People dont want to put the blame where it really goes and thats on themselves, so they blame God. Buts thats ok cause God will get the last laugh, Proverbs 1:24-26

Viewing God as a male, gives way to the ignorant that a man can do as he wants..that all abuse is done by males..we cannot "blame" God for any of that...that is NOT His way...Remember, he gave us the gift of free-will and the ability to think for ourselves--how we use it in our actions is entirely upon us--hopefully we will do the right things.

Anti-Discrimination gone mad....

Archbishop Rowan Williams is of a minority himself (he is gay)... so little wonder he would start pulling the crazy anti-discrimination card on anything else that might possibly feed back to folks having a go at him again.

[ Yes, I know this is an argumentum ad hominem.... but we're hardly talking about anything logical, are we? ]

I don't know how people can blame GOD for there own mistakes. GOD gave us the ability to choose. And what ever we choose to do is all on us. And I see GOD as a male cause he is talked about as the FATHER of JESUS.

What does that have to do with blaming "God" for domestic violence and abuse?

God allows it to happen - and don't say it's free will, because few women get beaten out of her own free will....
