If the early Christian church hadn't tortured, barbecued, flayed alive, beheaded and slaughtered members of other religions throughout its bloody history, the bible today would represent just one in a plethora of religions. But because Christianity has succeeded in virtually wiping out most other religions, it seems to those immersed in it to be "the" only one.
The religion worshipping Mitha (an earlier version of Jesus), for example, competed with Christianity for 400 years and then was absorbed into Christianity when the Mithra stories were rewritten as stories about Jesus.
<"During the 1st century BC, a cult of Mithra, made much progress in Rome, after enduring persecution, when some Emperors adopted the religion... Mithra became very popular among the Roman legionaries and later even among the Emperors. The worship of Mithra was first recognized by Emperor Aurelian and he instituted the cult of "Sol Invictus" or the Invincible Sun. Emperor Diocletian also a worshipper of Mithra, the Sun God, burned much of the Christian scriptures in 307 A.D.
This enabled Emperor Constantine to merge the cult of Mithra with that of Christianity that was developing much. He declared himself a Christian but at the same time maintained his ties to the Mithra cult. He retained the title "Pontifus Maximus" the high priest. On his coins were inscribed: "Sol Invicto comiti" which means, commited to the invincible sun. This new blend of the two faiths, he officially proclaimed as Christianity. Christianity spread all over the Roman empire and Eastern Europe by massive persecution and brought and end to a variety of religions that flourished there. [...]
Until the fourth century, Mithra and Christianity were distinct but after Constantine, the two cults were blended to form the new faith that was to conquer most of the world." >

Well, before answering your question, let me ask you a question using the very example that you have illustrated:
Eg. You have an online friend who claims to have 10 legs. You are hesitant to believe him/her but everything that the person does bears testimony to his/her reliability and honesty and lack of self-interest. Would you believe him/her, that he/she has 10 legs?
Everyone has presuppositions of what is possible and what is not. However, what distinguishes a pompous and humble man is the willingness to start off an investigation with the benefit of the doubt in mind. This keeps one's mind open to evidences. Pompous people often cling on to their beliefs not because of the evidences, but in spite of them.
Having established this logic, let me explain why I believe in Christianity:
1. Christianity actively promotes people to investigate into its claims. Read Luke 1
2. Christianity is a faith that is based upon actual historical events. Higher criticism had its hey-day back in the 18th century, however, in recent years, secular archeology has uncovered a stunning amount of facts that correspond with the historical claims of the Old and New Testaments.
3. The unique circulation of the Bible. It is the most widely distributed book in the history of mankind. Demand generates supply. Why is the Bible the most circulated book around? Because people demand for it, due to it's good Truth.
4. Fulfilled prophecies. The entire Old Testament and Book of Revelations are literally filled with distinct prophecies, not vague ones. Most of the prophecies have been fulfilled.
5. Not one anti-Christian critic has ever controverted a single word of the Bible.
6. It's permeating effects on the literature, law and culture on the world. Especially the Western Hemisphere.
In view of all these facts, the question that should be asked is: Why do people not believe in spite of all the evidences?

It's a spiritual matter. You don't understand because you are not claiming to have the Spirit of God in your life, do you? And if you do not have the Spirit of God at least guiding you to understanding, then how can you understand? It's axiomatic.
Have you ever made the decision to tell God that you believe in his Son, Jesus Christ? If not, then you do not have the connection that God requires on order to have His spirit live in you. So you are not saved.
The Bible promises those things to you if you comply with Him. And since you haven't you don't understand. It makes perfect sense to me.
So of course you would ask the question. You have as much trust in the authority of what is said in the Bible as what you would hear about Santa Claus. You don't see because you don't have the desire to see.
If you had the desire to see, you wouldask your question differently. Like someone who wanted to know the answers. But what I see is a personm that has already decided that there wasn't any good basis to believe these things.
"You have already made the choice, you just have to understand it." - The Oracle ( The Matrix)
That's one of my favorite quotes.

God is Allah, and Allah is God.
Arabs were Christians long before whites. Arabs were Christians long before English was a language.
Arabs were Christians long before the English word "God" ever came into existence.
Allah, is God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit.
Read up on your history.

I believe in God because of my personal relationship with him. I talk to him, he talks to me. I see him everyday. Santa Clause was a real man, his name was Chris Kringle from Norway he made toys for children. Zeus, Apollo and Hercules were just myths. Hence Greek Mythology...

I believe God because I've had a personal experience with Him. I've seen, without question, his healing power in the lives of close friends who WERE terminal with cancer. I've experienced the peace that can never be explained when things seemed their worst. I know that he is real because I have heard his voice and felt his hand in my life. If not for God, i would surely be in prision now or miserable on some back alley.
These things can only be experienced first hand and not necessarilly believed through an internet post. God has shown up in my life, and his existence is undenyable to me. He's waiting to show you that same reality.

Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. Jesus draws us to Him. When we accept Him instead of reject Him He releases the Holy Spirit to us. The Holy Spirit flows through the body like a river teaching, convicting, comforting, helping and ever aware of the Lord within us. He starts a refining and purifying process the old person is gone and the new person is becoming like Christ. When the trumpet sounds and Jesus calls "come up here" the Holy Spirit will take me up. He never leaves me nor forsakes me. He makes a way when there is no way. To make it easier to understand - He finds a parking spot when the lot is full.

The resurrection really happened. There is no other rational explanation to the spread of Christianity within a relatively short period of time after the death and resurrection.
Especially convincing is the behavior of the apostles. 11 died as martyrs, and John ended his life as an exile on the horrible island of Patmos. People will perpetuate a hoax with the rationalization of over-throwing the Roman empire, but Christianity strongly teaches cooperation with government.

I understand what you are ssaying... you think it is circular reasoning to claim the Bible proves God exists, so on and so forth...but why discount it? It is the BEST proof there is that we can show anyone.
Consider the prophecies alone in the Old Testament...and how absolutely accurately they were fulfilled. Figure the odds.
And, if you really take the time to read it, you will find actual wisdom that is every bit as relevant today in every culture as much as it has been in every age and in every culture. What other book can claim that, with any accuracy?
