It means to take baptismal vows on behalf of a child and in so doing to take responsibility, along with the parents of a child, for the spiritual upbringing of that child until such time as he or she can decide for him or herself to renew the vows taken on his or her behalf in confirmation, i.e. acceptance as an adult member of the Church. It is a solemn and serious undertaking. It carries no legal responsibility: only spiritual responsibility.

I have a godmother and Father the idea behind that custom (if that child's parents die or are unable to take care of that child the god parents must step in and take over ) i like having them because i get great presents and money for holidays and such lol
