Prove that he ran away because of the fear for being at gunpoint in order that he might not be considered as escaping from being arrested. This might be considered as a mitigating circumstance under the law.

You are not telling the whole story. There was a reason the officer had him at gunpoint and there was a reason he ran and i seriously doubt this all occured because his music was too loud. Those two reasons will determine the outcome. I suggest distancing yourself. He is looking at serious jail time for fleeing while on probation on top of the offence that he committed that got the officer to pull his weapon in the first place. No matter how good a lawyer he has, he will be doing time.

I recommend you not get too excited right now. I think your boyfriend isn't telling you the whole story.

First of all, while it's possible he was stopped for loud music, I find it unlikely. I base that on my personal experience, having heard many cars with their music loud enough to cause pain to people in the next car, leaving one to wonder how any living thing could survive on the inside. Yet, I have never once seen the police stop anyone for this.

Second, if a police officer did decide to stop someone for loud music, I find it highly unlikely they would find it necessary to draw weapons for that reason alone.

Third, given that the police are trained to only draw weapons when they are prepared to shoot, your boyfriend would have to be a complete moron to run from an armed police officer at traffic-stop range.

I think the truth is probably greatly different from your boyfriend's story. Perhaps he was stopped for a defective light, expired tags, or speeding. Perhaps he was holding something that would violate his probation, and decided to run BEFORE the handcuffs came out.

Now, you may be asking yourself "Why would he lie to me?"

It's really simple. You're probably the only one right now that is even considering putting yourself on the hook for the bond.

Now, do you really understand how a bond works? Let's say they set bail at $5,000. You pay a bail bondsman $500 (10%) to put up the bail. You will not get that money back no matter what happens. If your boyfriend skips, the bondsman has to pay the $5,000, and they are going to look to YOU to make it good.

Can you afford that? If you can, the bond is probably too low. If you can't, you might want to double check all your assumptions about your boyfriend.

Maybe everything is just as he says, but it simply doesn't add up. You might want to get the police officer's story before you commit yourself to making good on a bond.

You're not telling us the entire story. He didn't run just because his music was too loud. He was likely an absconder and was wanted for probation violation.

Short answer: He's going to prison and will soon have a new 300 lb. black man to "break him in".
