Chiari malformation affects the cerebellar tonsils, they protrude into the spinal column through the foramen magnum. However it is unlikely that a person with a Chiari malformation will have it severe enough to reach the pituitary gland to cause problems, including diabetes insipidus.

I have chiari malformation myself and I'm and RN. And the answer is no. That would be a seperate issue. I would bring it up to your neurologist just for safety but ALL the research I did showed nothing of the sort and it didn't happen to me. Good Luck!

yes any intracranial mass can cause DI. it's unlikely to cause pituitary compression though.
