Lena there are several free software sites, dont listen to them. Here are at least three that I have tested tried and true:
www.majorgeeks.com They will tell you if it is shareware, or freeware. A few of these are trial versions, but many are the full version, free.
www.kubuntu.org Not only do they have free operating systems that are better and easier to use than Windows, but they well even mail you the CD free, also.
www.openoffice.org This is superior to MS Office and free.
