catholics on the whole don't hate protestants, nor vice versa. Where there is some animosity is down to oppression. In the north of ireland (i assume that's where you're referring to), Catholics an protestants were treated unequally by the British state. Protestants - or unionists were treated preferentially- be it economically (jobs in the shipyards) politically (election fixing or "gerrymendering") and militarily (the B specials, the paras at bloody sunday and so on)
the animosity is due to political issues rather than interfaith differences.

On an examination of religious differences i think catholicism wins the race to absolute weirdness. Catholics beliieve (or are supposed to) that the eucharist bread actually turns into the body of christ and the wine actually turns into the blood of christ (how that happens i don't know- i said they were weird) . It's called transubstantiation. protestants see it as a symbolic act, which sounds much more plausible.

Oh and catholics think that the pope can pass divine judgement on doctrinal matters - he could turn around tomorrow and say something comlpletely off the wall and catholics in theory would have to take it.
I did say it was weird. Most catholics are sensible enough to take whatever the church says with a pinch of salt. We it on contraception or transubstantiation.

oh and the church itself is friendly with protestant churches. no hate then.

Well, we don't really hate Protestants. As a matter of fact the Catholic Church is having a dialogue with mainline Protestant groups right now. Martin Luther was an Augustinian priest and he had some serious issues against the Church which were not attended to properly.

Doctrinal differences? I think there are three major differences. Salvation, the Real Presence in the Eucharist and the veneration of the Blessed Mother and the saints of the Church.

Peace and every blessing!

Any church doctrine is written by man and it's is required to be signed to become a member of that church or organization in most cases. I don't hate anyone for their belief or church they attend. That would be wrong. The Catholic doctine is very long and it has changed a lot over the years a few times for membership, not because what God said. I was once a Catholic and left when I was old enough to understand the difference between God's word and man's word.

Hi, as a Catholic I can honestly tell you that I do not hate Protestant people, this would be against the Lord`s command to love one another as He loves us.
You can go to www.catholic.org for much info.

I use to be catholic and they have so many extras that it's unreal! Extra books, extra gadgets, extra everything! I never could understand why they call other religions "protestant." I renounced the catholic religion and am now a born again Christian and I do not consider myself to be a "protestant." I am a follower of Jesus.
