My son was on it for 6 months (although he was only 10 yrs old). He was given it due to his behaviour and his aggression. It did help. Although it was a wrong diagnosis and he is now on another med as he was diagnosed with adhd. My son put on about 14/18lbs - this is seemingly one of the more common side effects and he would would eat non-stop. Other than that he said his muscles felt heavy sometimes and often would have a dry mouth. The drug made him very tired also.......he went to bed early. He was on a low dose of 5mg in the morning then 6 hours later 0.25mg.
It is a drug normally given to schizophrenics. Although here, in UK it is not normally given to children under the age of 14/15 yrs as it has never been tested as to what long term effects it has on the developing brain.

It's an atypical antipsychotic for schizophrenia but now being marketed to bipolars. It's also called Invega because Johnson and Johnson is losing their patent on risperdal and needs to sell it some other way. These drugs carry huge risks: getting diabetes, Parkinson-like movements or irreversible uncontrolled movements, weight gain, changes in cardiac rhythm. They're big money makers and are going to be the new drug of choice for bipolars. I wouldn't touch them unless I was majorly schizophrenic.
