doing the devils work? does that mean you will never listen to a voice outside your congregation for religious understanding? or do you think that since talking about other views on life, you have opened your mind to other possibilities?

I generally enjoy talking to people about religion and spirituality. I am not easily offended and enjoy hearing the many perspectives people have. Sometimes they simply quote the stuff I've read about their religion, but many times they go deeper. They explain symbolism and give personal experiences and understandings on what they believe. Sometimes these differ from the "standard" teachings and sometimes they are the "standard" teachings only said in more personal language. There are many different angles from which to view the Divine and talking with other people who may or may not be the same religion as I am often helps me to take a look at the Divine from yet another perspective. Sometimes I even meet people who have perspectives that I had never even considered approaching...never even thought about it like they do. It may not change my own mind on how I view things, but atleast I now understand another approach. It's very refreshing. Plus by being able to talk with others from other religions it can also help to clarify misconceptions, misperceptions, and misinformation that either of us may have about each other's religious tradition.

In this forum, without fail, if someone questions my faith, or talks of other 'possibilities', I know they believe themselves to be doing "The Lord's" work.
Do I listen? Only with half an ear.
I'm not being closed minded, but I've heard their narrow repertoire before.
Of course I'm open to other, New, views and possibilities.
That's why I keep coming back here.
Sometimes I meet interesting people.
Sometimes I learn something genuinely new, and not just the everyday flood of verbatim regurgitation.

No, sometimes I believe that when a person questions your faith that they could be doing God's work and just not know it. God throws that stuff out there at us to make us stronger believers. Also sometimes when somebody points out other views or possibilities it draws us closer to God because we go and research it.

If you think that way, then you are terribly insecure in your faith. You need to get on your knees and ask God for the guidance to KNOW what to do. Either to know what you believe and WHY, or to find out if there IS something else out there that is better, closer to the truth.
