"I'm lonely," Adam told God in the Garden of Eden. "I need to have someone around for company."

"Okay", replied God. "I'm going to give you the perfect woman. Beautiful, intelligent and gracious, she'll cook and clean for you and never say a cross word."

"Sounds good," Adam said. "But what's she going to cost?"

"An arm and a leg."

"That's pretty steep," countered Adam. "What can I get for just a rib?"

Read the bible. It says, God put Adam in a deep sleep and then closed the flesh back up. If God does surgery in that kind of way it will feel painless and good. In the Presence of God there is no pain. One of the reasons God took the rib out of Adam was to be a witness to mankind that He is the creator. That's why men have 11 ribs and women 12, because God removed one from the man.

Did you read the rest of the story? God caused Adam to fall "into a deep sleep" prior to removing the rib.

In surgical circles, that is called "anesthesia".

And since we are dealing with a "miraculous" surgery here, it is possible that God could have removed some of Adam's flesh and bone without causing or inflicting pain or damage, only change.

Plus, remember Adam was given a naked woman after the surgery! *All better now!*

Adam was asleep.

Genesis 2:21 - And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

Genesis 2:22 - And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

No, the BIble says that God made a deep sleep fall over Adam. While there are lots of illogical and downright stupid things in the Genesis story, this is not one. But keep trying.

Eternal damnation, but only if you believe that stuff. I'm one of the Other People - I've got all of my ribs.

its a figure of speech and not meant to be taken literally. it basically means god took adam's dna and created woman from it.

back then how could you find a word for dna...or genetic manipulation?

sounds more supernatural if you use RIB and GOD and MAKING WOMAN OUT OF A RIB OF ADAM!
