I feel so much for you as I have only just fully resolved how to deal with my somewhat stressfull conditions of IBS also.
Things that I found to help me enormously are:
As the others have already said, you really do need to first pinpoint what is causing the most irritation to your system. By first eliminating dairy for a week and then eliminating wheat for a week, I would say that you'd be off to a great start.
For me, I totally have to avoid both wheat and dairy !! Not as hard as it sounds........... As far as milk goes, just substitute with a soy/rice/goats milk alternative. Try focusing on fresh fruit and vegies, lean meats and fish, if you choose to eliminate all dairy make sure you get yourself a really good multivitamin supplement with all the B vitamins contained in it. Don't buy cheap vitamins as they are usually synthetic and notoriously hard to digest. Expect to pay around $30.00 AUD for about a months supply.
Make sure you drink at least 10 glasses of pure filtered a day. Replacing caffeine drinks with twice as much water !!
Also, I've only recently discovered that vitamin B6, which is part of the B complex of vitamins, is essential for the production of hydrochloric acid in your stomach !! Your best sources of B6 are Meats, organ meats, blackstrap molasses, peas, beans, lentils and green leafy vegies. Also whole grain breads and cereals ................ Therefore, if you aren't eating one of these foods with each meal you will have inordinate difficulty digesting food in an already irritated system !! Fantastic news for sure !! Simply add spinach leaves, rocket, endive, sliced tomatoes and a touch of lemon juice to your lunch and dinner and you will find your digestion greatly improved.
For bloating that you just can't get rid of??? Just add 1 teaspoon of baking soda to a glass of cold water and drink up. This will realkalize the acidic condition of your stomach and settle it really quickly. Also, two tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar placed into cold water and drunk half an hour before meals will help with the production of hydrochloric acid in your stomach.
I really hope you follow my advice as it is true and tried and works fabulously ............................:0)

It is probably not a lot of fat.
You may be bloated (distended) from the gas etc;
Papaya pills help.
Also watch your diet. Go on line and look for a list of items you can eat and should stay away from.
Figure out what will bring down the bloating. This will help greatly with any irritations.

Have you been getting tablets for this? The doctor can give you special tablets with peppermint in that help lots - I think they are called Colpermin. I know how you feel about being bloated, I used to be the same when I was younger and then one day it stopped completely. Watch what you eat - when I ate bread I got really bloated - I cut down on that and it helped - maybe it will be different for you and other foods might affect you but maybe have a chat with your doctor to see.

A diet high in fiber can be helpful for those of us with IBS. Fiber can be found in things such as breads made from whole grains.
Bloating can be a symptom with IBS but I would recommend seeing your dr to have this evaluated and rule out other potential problems that could be causing this.

Go for protein as an alternative to sugar to keep energy levels going strong rather then crashing. Edamame in pods is the perfect snack since it takes a long time to eat and a one-cup portion offers 12 grams of healthy proteins.

You need to figure out which foods trigger your IBS- if you can avoid these, your condition will be much more manageable. The main culprits are wheat and dairy- cut out wheat for a week, then dairy for a week, see how you feel.
If you can't put it down to either of these, see your doctor. There are medications that can help manage IBS if it's that severe.

I have exactly the same problem.
i've had about 5 different types of medication from my dr.
my stomach gets so swollen i have maternity jeans.
But it's not just the swelling its the pain just under the rib, the chest pains, the cramping stabbing pains. IBS is pretty complex. One medication can stop one thing but make another symptom worse.
but we're trying! the toilet thing is embarassing, just keep your chin up and go and see your GP and tell him how much its getting to you and ask him to help.

You need to find out what your trigger foods are. Keep a food diary and write how you have been in relation to your IBS that may help. Make an appointment with your doc to get you reffered to a consultant for help and advice....hope this helps.
