Keep the decor light. You can get light reflecting paint from dulux I think. Hang a mirror opposite the window, this again will reflect light around the room , Also keep the flooring either light or reflective . For example a cream carpet, or if you have floorboards use a high gloss varnish.

Consider adding another window for one. I recently replaced the windows in my house and was surprised how easy it was. A professional could advise you on the best way to add an extra window.
Another thing...I recently refinished half of my basement where there is only one smaller window. The room is about 19' x 13'. I added 7 recessed lights...with 60W lightbulbs...plus I used a lighter paint color and white trim/doors. The room is really welcoming and bright now...and the place where my family loves hanging out.

The Rule of Thumb is to usually paint the Wall with the window with a darker tone of paint than the other 3 walls. Make sure though that the paint on the walls aren't dark in color. Also, you can hang mirrors on the opposite side of the window to "bounce light from the window " It would also be a great idea to have light hardwood floors and furniture.

your answer is yellow, white, cream, light wooden colors of furniture, curtains( white almost see through mesh hard to clean but doesn't block out sun light) the mirror idea ( make it a small mirror) opposite to the window is a very good idea, and try to put a lamp on a dark corner away from the window (tall lamp with three or more light bulbs in it you can find it at IKEA) yes small rugs because big ones will eat up the floor, and don't put neon lamps (white light will bring out blues and greens you don't want that) use yellow light bulbs to bring out the yellow and white more, and paint the walls or put wall paper with creamy or bright yellowish or honey colors or a combo of two if you want it will look awesome. good luck :D

You could install a lightbulb.
But don't listen to me...
Lightbulbs are outrageous now a day.
Thats why no one uses them.
