Generally most women can begin a formal exercise program within 6 weeks of giving birth, though this time frame might be slightly longer for some women, including those recovering from a C-section. Most women recovering from a C-section will be able to exercise after there incision has healed and their doctor has cleared them for exercise.

Just how soon you begin an exercise program will depend in part on how you feel. If you had an easy delivery with no tearing and few interventions and regularly exercised prior to birth, you may feel up to some light exercise within 2 weeks of giving birth.

If this is the case, your doctor will probably allow you to engage in some light activities, including walking. Strenuous activity should generally be avoided however until several weeks after birth.

For some women however, even light exercise in the weeks following delivery is not possible. If you had an episiotomy or tore severely while delivering for example, your body may not physically be ready for a formal exercise program for at least 4-6 weeks after birth (note. this is also how long most physicians recommend that women abstain from intercourse!).

How soon you begin exercising thus depends on your body and your unique situation. Be sure you consult with your physician before embarking on a new exercise program regardless of your activity level before and during pregnancy.

Walking is a great exercise, and you can start that just as soon as you feel up to walking depending on what type of delivery you had. It's harder to walk with a c-section, so if you had a vaginal delivery, then as soon as you feel fine, then you can do that. Taking a long walk with a baby in a stroller is a good way to burn off calories. I don't think you should do anything more heavy-duty than that until after 6 weeks. My mom would not even let me vacuum. Your insides need to heal properly and well. Let's not give them reasons to extend their recovery time. Remember that your internal organs take longer to heal, and since you can't see their bruises, it doesn't mean they're not there. Let the doctor check you and give you a nod before you start sit-ups, push-ups, squats, and especially not jumping jacks.

Well your body is still quite sensitive at the moment and it's worrying if straight after the birth you want to start exersizing-spend time with your beautiful baby! But I can understand wanting to get rid of the baby weight so I would suggest some LIGHT exersize in about a month and then after 2 months getting a bit more difficult then after 3 months resume normal exersize. . . Good Luck!

I found a great way to lose weight fast and keep it off. I do body cleansing. I lost 13 pounds in 9 days and then 28 pounds in less than a month. Cleansing will help the body get rid of impurities. Impurites come from a lot of things like fast food, pollution, food additives and preservatives etc. The impurities get stored in the fat in our body. To shrink the fat, we have to get rid of the impurities by cleansing. This made sense to me and I decided to try a cleanse program and it worked. The weight came off fast and this kept me motivated to keep going, not like other diets where the weight loss it too slow.
