The theme of the Bible in one word is " redemption". It is simply the story of how man fell into sin and how God is redeeming mankind back to himself.

I can sum it up for you.
All-powerful being takes a week to create everything, as you see it now, about 6000 years ago. (Coincidentally, this is around the time Sumerians invented glue.) God creates humans, who turn out to be really stupid and disobedient. For some reason, all-knowing being doesn't see this coming. Later, because he's pissed off at everyone being so stupid, God tells old coot to build giant boat, put an assload of animals on it, and he'll flood the world to wipe everyone out except him.
Skip a few.
Little boy is born of a virgin (...or not, if you read 2 of the gospels, as Mary's virginity isn't mentioned), claims to be the Son of God, is killed for his heresy, and somehow rises from the dead to become a zombie-god.
Paul writes a bunch of letters to people, combining the ridiculous laws of the Old Testament (stuff like "gays are bad, m'kay" to "pork is bad, m'kay?") with the Jesus story (decades after-the-fact) to give his own twisted view on things.
Then Revelation, in which there's a dragon thing, the whore of Babylon, and Jesus flies in with a cape on. The end.
Okay, so I made that part up.

Why do you want vague terms?
The bible is about salvation.
The central message of the bible is this:
We all are born with a sin nature.
Sin separates us from God.
Jesus shed His precious blood on the cross to pay the penalty for sin.
Receiving Jesus, accepting His forgiveness for our sin, following Him are the thing that reconciles us to God. Once we have received salvation through Jesus, we are no longer separated from God.
Any questions? feel free to email me if you do.

About a malevolent deity who commits mass genocide and tortures even his loyal followers with plagues. He loves sacrifices and the smell of burning flesh, in the climax of the story he even has his own son brutally murdered just to appease himself. It is in short a horror novel, with every thing from cannibalism to rape to racism to incest to this deities obsession with bowels and smearing feces on humans faces.
