What's a good and just way to ask a girl to the prom?

are you kidding me?!? Dude, you want to take that pretty little flake to your prom? Do the 3 second rule. Approach, make small talk (something respectful anyways). A good way to get her to let down her guard a little bit is make a small joke that'll get her to laugh.
When she feels a little more comfortable with you, that's when you let her know you want to take her to the dance. You don't have to go straight into the question, but hinder at it, first (i.e., ask if she's excited about the upcoming prom, is she going with anyone, etc). Make your move slowly. When the time is right, then you can swing in and ask if she'd like to go to the prom WITH YOU. (that last part is crucial man)
one more piece of advice:
Go in there with your head up, full of confidence, and look into her eyes when you ask. If you look away, chances are she may turn your offer down.

ask her what shes doing on prom nite, say: "hey! what are you doing on prom night?" and then ask her if she will go to the prom with you, say: "will you go to the prom with me?" if she says no, just ask someone less attractive or less cool. but then when you take the less cool/attractive girl out to the prom with you, she gets dressed up with makeup and everything and it turns out she is the most beautiful girl at the dance!
Why don't you just watch about any teenage movie from the 80s. There are life lessons to be learned.

Go to her house and in the presence of her pop and mom, get down on you rknees and put on a very pained look. Tell her" You better go to the prom with me or else!!!"
At that her parnts will pounce on you, then you say "or else I wont do your yard for free for the fall"
At this her parents will pounce on her, ( Specially her dad) and tell her you better go or else (More serious consequnces).
That or
" Hi pretty, would you do me the honour of attending the prom with Me! "

You can just ask her straight out, or you can find out what her favorite thing is like hello kitty or something like that and make a big hello kitty poster asking her.
