I've been taking two different meds lately to treat a fever. Tylenol Extra Strength Adult Liquid contains 500 MG of acetaminophen per tablespoon, and for my age and body weight I require two tablespoons. I've been taking it since 6 PM Yesterday (March 31st) every 4-5 hours.
My mouth has also been scratchy (I've been attempting to save it with a humidifier), so I treated it with equaline sore throat spray with 1.4% Phenol; I use two sprays every two hours since 6:02 PM Pacific (It's now 9:12 Pm Pacific)
Does either of these, alone or combined, cause Dry Mouth? It's been bugging me for a while, and my searches on google worry me for the well-being of my mouth/teeth.
Sorry for the inconveniently long detail "Paragraph", I attempt to be detailed as possible to correctly pinpoint the problem.

Well, for starters, i'm kinda of the opin. that tyl is sorta useless...i mean, i guess ok for fevers, but I'm partial to ibuprofen in that it has anti-inflammatory properties, while tyl is just an analgesic... try 400mg ibu every 4-6 hrs for a day or two.

That said, you could just ahve a scratchy throat from whatever is causing the fever...some kinda bacteria or whatever as the fever (as mentioned above) is the body's attempt to cook the darn thing...

Phenol, I would assume, is some kind of alcohol, and all alcohols will dry out oral mucosa. I recommend Biotene mouthwash for patients w/ dry mouth....
also, just take a lot of vit. C and drink plenty of fluids. That should help out. If it isn't better by midweek, see your doctor.

Why are you trying to lower a fever? Unless it is really high you should not treat a fever as this is your body's way of trying to fight what is making you ill. ALso the meds are not making your mouth dry.. Drink more water and use a mouth mositurizer and the name of one escapes me right now but they are available at your drug store.

A FEVER OF 102.5-104.5 IS NOTHING TO BE PLAYED WITH. THE DRY THROAT MAY INDEED BE A PRODUCT OF THE FEVER.
PLEASE SEE A PHYSICIAN FOR APPROPRIATE TREATMENT. PHENOL IS A POWERFUL ANTI-BACTERIAL COMPOUND. IT MAY INDEED BE CAUSING THE DRY MOUTH. THE ACETAMINOPHEN WOULD NOT CAUSE SUCH AN EFFECT.
