It would be a cardiothoracic (CT) surgeon who _specializes_ in cardiac transplant. Not all CT surgeons do transplants. I work with several who do not, but at the other hospital where I work the CT guys do heart transplants as well as other cardiac surgery.

Doing any sort of transplant also require a much more sophisticated infrastructure for the surgery, anesthesia, and OR departments.

Regular transplant surgeons do not do hearts or lungs (you need CT experience).

BTW the thoracic part usually just means lungs. There is no such thing as a "pulmonary surgeon" they're called thoracic surgeons (i.e. they don't do hearts)

A Cardiac Surgeon or cardiothoracic surgeon. A cardiac surgeon performs cardiac surgery or operative procedures on the heart and great vessels, that would include heart transplantation. A cardiac surgeon is usually associated with thoracic surgeon (does operation on the chest except the heart), the reason why in some countries, the one doing heart transplantation is called cardiothoracic surgeon.

Its cardiothoracic surgeon. Cardio because he's operating on the cardiac muscle and thoracic because he's working in the thoracic cavity.

Call them comics;

An old man just had a heart transplant and was getting
instructions from his doctor. He was placed on a strict
diet, denied tobacco and alcohol, and advised to get at
least eight hours sleep a night.

"What about my sex life?" asked the old man "Will it be all
right for me to have intercourse?"

"Only with your wife," said the doctor. "We don't want you
to get too excited."
