Yeah its possible to get back the files. If the files are MS Office files then you can try the Open and Repair option (built-in feature in office applications) and then try to recover the files. Visit this link to know the process: http://filerepair.blogspot.com/

If this doesnt helps then you can try the hard drive / data recovery software by Nucleus Data Recovery ; http://www.nucleustechnologies.com/Data-Recovery-Software.html
The Kernel software brings back the deleted files from the drives - formatted, deleted partitions too.

Can surely give a try!

If you formatted (deleted everything on) your hard drive (most likely you also installed a new operating system), then you cannot get the files back as you formatted the physical locations that they were at. But, if I understood you incorrectly, then that means that you did System Restore on your Windows XP, it might be possible to get the files back if you restored to a time after the creation of those files. In that case, try and remember where you stored the files, and navigate there and check to see if they are there. Otherwise, there is not possible way to get them back.

Hope I cleared up this matter for you,

There are some critical steps that you need to take to increase your chances for a successful recovery. But don't worry you don't have to be a tech guru to recover your deleted files, nor do you have to pay hundreds of dollars to a data recovery specialist. Disk Drill has several different recovery algorithms, including Undelete Protected Data, Quick Scan and Deep Scan. It will run through them one at a time until your lost data is found.

Restoring to an earlier date does not affect data files. You might not have saved them.

If you are sure you did save them, do you remember the name to which you saved or any part of it? If so, try a search:
