Why are people so raceis. I mean like every one is these days. I just want to know what people think about it. I have a friend that is gay and people are so mean to him. It makes me sad.

I just LOVE your generalizations... "everyone is these days"??? No, not everyone these days are racist. By that definition, you are also included in "everyone" and therefore you have just called yourself a racist.
Just as you seem to object to others lumping people into categories, you have lumped "everyone" into the category of racist. So let's be more careful when you are pointing fingers. As the old adage goes, when you are pointing a finger at someone, there are 4 other fingers pointing back at you. Think about it for a moment.

people are entitled to their own opinions/ beliefs systems. I don't think being homophobic is necessarily bad. But if those beliefs/opinions are used to restrict basic civil rights to a certain group of people, then that makes it wrong,. For instance, I do not agree with the idea of gay marriage but I would never, NEVER vote against it because I feel like I am damning a whole set of people and curtailing their basic civil rights.... which is ,in my opinion, is morally unjust.

Being gay is hard and lonely. The average age expectancy is so much younger than normal folks. Maybe you should try convincing your friend to change his life style so that people won't be mean to him. God can change his desires by becoming a "Born Again" Christian.
