In my opinion the Guantanamo base is a camp dedicated to torture people. According to some studies, most of the inmates are not even part of any terrorist association. What do you feel, as an american, about this? Do you agree with this?

I don't want to offend anyone. But this is something that is totally wrong. ypu just can't go torturing people because you think they are 'the enemy' without even having evidence. And I am not deffending terrorists, but I can't think why the US and its base is better than terrorists, they are doing the same thing: making people suffer.

It seems like many people got offended by my question. Again, I did not mean to do that. It's just a question and sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings.

You have no idea what you are talking about, it would take far to long to bring you up to speed on the real world to go into here.

The Guantanamo Base has existed since before Castro took over Cuba. So for you to say it is a Base dedicated to torturing people. you are wrong. Guantanamo was NOT created just to house the Terrorists Prisoners.
You really don't have a clue what you are talking about. you are forming an il concieved opinion based on propaganda and false information.
What studies are you refering to? the Liberal pro-terrorists sympathiser's studies?
You claim MOST prisoners are not terrorists.
I dont doubt there are some there that got picked up because of bad circumstantial evidence, they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. and as things get investigated we are correcting that as quicly as possible. Many have been RELEASED onces their innocence was discovered.
SO yes... SOME are not part of terror groups. but to claim MOST is EXTREMELY IGNORANT on your part.
MOST and by most I mean greater than 95% of the Prisoners, all fall into one of several catigories.
a) Known Terrorists Like Khalid Sheik Mohammed
b) Taliban Terrorists supporters
c) Insurgent combattants caught during actual fighting with American or Iraqi/Afghani Troops
ALL and by all I mean 100% of the prisoners are being treated by the Geneva conventions that govern the rules of war and the ethical treatment of prisoners of war.
Even though technically they do not qualify for protection of the Geneva convention. Terrorists are not LEGITIMATE COMBATTANTS as they are not official troops of a sovereign nation. Technically they can all be summarily executed.
As to torture going on. I dont think so.
Every study I have seen from RESPECTABLE and non sensationalistic sources claim no torture is taking place.
Besides what is Torture?
My Six year old nephew thinks not being able to watch Cartoon Channel is torture.
There are many things that nearly everyone can agree is torture.
Burning
Beatings
Breaking bones
etc...
but there are many things that are legitimate interrogation techniques that some would claim as torture and others would not.
If you got a terrorists captured and he knows of a new 9/11 style attack. are we to just sit back and say "Anything you want to tell us is ok, we wont press you for info." ?!?!?
Please tell me you are not this stupid!
Besides. the terrorists knows how American political opinions and bleeding heart liberals work. All they have to do is claim torture when none has happened and political oponents will start fighting each other
As is actually happening
So I will close my answer with a question to you.
How does it feel to be a tool of the terrorists?
because you are playing right into their hands and sowing desent.

And what torture is actually occuring at Guantanamo? I've known people who have worked there, and there isn't any torture going on. The closest thing I can think of is, after a terrorist assaults an MP, they execute a forced extraction and put them in solitary. From my understanding, that's pretty standard practice at all prisons, civilian and military.
But, I don't want to bog you down with facts.

You are most certainly entitled to your opinion, young lady, and there's nothing wrong with asking your question. I would suggest that you be very selective of the information sources you relied on for your opinion, however. The vast majority of the media sources are not at all knowledgeable, and their main thrust is selling advertising, not bringing you the truth. A sad truth is that sensational stories sell more advertising. The American military does not condone torture. I will not say it never happens because there are simply too many people involved and some few of them are...shall we say, less than desirable. The average American soldier, sailor or airman would turn his weapons on anyone using torture.

If I had to be captured I would love it if my captors treated me in the Gitmo style.
It is inaccurate to think that when America uses the word torture that it in anyway means actual torture. I don't know where you get your information from but having a woman rub her body against you may be horrible pain to a Muslim but it in no way is physical abuse. Even sleep deprivation is mildly discomforting compared to what most people think of as torture.
Your concern is misplaced. Rather than worry about American torture, you should be concerned about Muslim torture. They drill into your eyes, break your arms, slit your throat and these are the mild inflictions.
Where is your source for your allegation that most of the inmates are not part of a terrorist association? Are you saying that instead of capturing real terrrorists to find out if there will be another attack against America, that we pick up innocent tourists and bystanders who have no useful information to impart and burn cigarette holes into their genitals just for the hell of it?

I agree that Guantanamo is necessary. These detainees should thank their lucky stars that the merciful U.S. is holding them captive. They should be kissing the ground. They may as well be at a country club (compared to most prisons in the world).
You want those countries who consistently violate human rights (of innocents) to judge us? They are nobody and have ZERO credibility regarding world affairs.
The U.S. is the best country in the world to be a prisoner. I wish they were more harsh. This is not day care we are talking about people.

Well, you are entitled to your opinion even if it is wrong. Guantanamo is a military base that just happens to house prisoners of war because they can be isolated. It's not a good idea to allow prisoners of war to be able to communicate with fellow terrorists. To which studies do you refer? How about the latest Kennedy "documentary?" Seems the Kennedys, when not high, are on the side of terrorists these days. Further, the "international community" has no business telling us where we can keep our prisoners of war or what we can do with them so long as they are given basic human rights.

Guantanamo is just like a super high security prison. It is also a US navy base, so the world has no jurisdiction. The media makes everything that happens there seem worse too.
